Nerves in the prefecture are shot. With the continual aftershocks, and the separate earthquakes ... it has to be hard beyond my ken, to simply get through the days, struggling to retain sanity. The tsunami warnings must be the most terrifying. My heart goes out to the entire nation, and to my friends there.

There's a reason it's included in the "ring of fire".  It really upsets me that so many people lost their lives, a lot of them elderly because they couldn't get inland or high enough in time.  Entire families lost, survivors hoping for news of relatives found, it's just so sad.
