No matter how hard you are looking at that naked slave or how wet admiring the dom-- don't give out your email or respond to a yahoo address. In fact give them fake emails and keep em busy. They will only sell your address to spammers and you'll be stuck taking matters into your own hands.

Palliata -> RE: Don't give out your email address (4/7/2011 8:55:24 AM)

I just started an alternate Yahoo account I use just for chat. Never check the email, so they can spam it to their hearts' content. Simple solution to a simple problem.

DarkSteven -> RE: Don't give out your email address (4/7/2011 9:09:31 AM)

I have no problems telling fake from real and I have exchanged email addresses with dozens of people here with no ill results.

If you're not willing to give email addresses and phone numbers, you'll never move from online.

DesFIP -> RE: Don't give out your email address (4/7/2011 9:15:31 AM)

Sensible people use an alternate email addy for online people. One they don't care about.

Arpig -> RE: Don't give out your email address (4/7/2011 9:15:34 AM)

Ummmmm....what's the big deal with spam anyway. I have a junk mail folder where anything not from my contacts goes. gets about 100 items a day. once a day I just quickly scan the author/subjects to see if any of them is something I was expecting from some new source..move those and mark them as safe, and hit the "Empty" button...poof!! all gone. The entire process takes up about 2 minutes of my time.

Like I said...what's the big deal.

So, in other words, act in a fraudulent fashion...which makes you better than a supposed spammer how?
Or picture this scenario-perfectly real gal is actually inane enough to send the OP her email, he responds with a fake one-now who's the spammer?

And why just Yahoo? Is g-mail or AOL or any other much safer...or are we just engaging in broad generalizations?
And have I mentioned how much I like other people trying to safeguard me, use my common sense for me, and save me from me?
Arrogance is so nice at noon....

[sm=agree.gif][sm=agree.gif][sm=agree.gif] What they said.

Not rocket science to have a spare account for events where you are unsure if it is safe to provide your main email account and quite frankly if it would happen then so what...it's not rocket science to delete that account and start a new one [8|]

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: Don't give out your email address (4/7/2011 9:53:35 AM)

Back when I was actively looking, I had a separate email and yahoo account for contacts from CM. It was not a fake account by any means, just an account I did not keep up with on the same basis as I would my normal email account which is up and running if I am awake.

My reason for this was b/c of the huge volume of responses I got, and the fact that I work at home on the pc. In order to fulfill my work commitments, I could not spend hours chatting with random CM contacts that I had little investment in. My schedule just does not allow that.

The volume of replies I received caused me to implement some extremely harsh "triage" policies. If I received a message with an unsolicited yahoo address, it was deleted. I saw it as a red flag and therefore a reason to delete, but then I was looking for reasons.

YMMV

Ah, my Master must have missed that opportunity to exploit me for the last 2 years.
What a shame.

Somehow I missed all these opportunities to be scammed in the 18 months before I met him; the sad details of which I relayed here:
http://www.collarchat.com/m_2774994/mpage_1/key_Fakes%252Crant/tm.htm#2774994

I still don't know what it was that I was doing wrong all those months, and now I learn my master should have been selling my email info to spammers or else he isn't a weal and twue fake? [:(]

*Feels suddenly very confused*

I think I need to lie down for awhile.

windchymes -> RE: Don't give out your email address (4/7/2011 10:09:57 AM)

I've always kept separate email addresses, since one is actually myrealname@ that I use for professional-type correspondence and trusted friends and relatives. NOTHING remotely commercial goes to that one. EVERYTHING else goes to the sillychatroomname@ addresses, and I have two of those.

I will pray that your healing can begin soon Angelica.

OP, given your past threads regarding spammers, my question to you is.....why are you online instead of focusing on your local community?

It might be funny, in a way, to start considering folks who have common sense to be exceptional.  [:D]

SailingBum -> RE: Don't give out your email address (4/7/2011 12:41:12 PM)

Over the years I given my real email address to countless <at the very least a couple hundred> ppl. Never a issue. Cept that one smoking hot bitch that was stalking me for about a day. she caught me in a secluded parking lot and then.... But that's a whole nuther story

Not quite right I'm afraid. Those dedicated to spamming tend to favour Internet guest books and comments pages with visible e-mail addresses. It's far less labour intensive.

That saying I wish I had the sort of lifestyle that I could devote so much attention to spammers or even people who usually have little or no bearing on my life.

Yep Yep If preventing spammed is a priority in your life ... You pretty much have no LIFE.

tiggerspoohbear -> RE: Don't give out your email address (4/7/2011 1:12:18 PM)

I think I have enough sense at the age of 48 to know who I can trust with my yahoo ID.  I also have the sense to have one set up for CM, my hotmail is personal and only goes out to family and very close friends.  And when you create a yahoo ID you don't have to get an email addy for it.  So there, problem solved.  Easy, peasy ain't it?
