Ludicrous and Cruel

Many commentators swooned earlier this week after House Republicans, led by the Budget Committee chairman, Paul Ryan, unveiled their budget proposals. They lavished praise on Mr. Ryan, asserting that his plan set a new standard of fiscal seriousness.

Well, they should have waited until people who know how to read budget numbers had a chance to study the proposal. For the G.O.P. plan turns out not to be serious at all. Instead, it’s simultaneously ridiculous and heartless.

How ridiculous is it? Let me count the ways — or rather a few of the ways, because there are more howlers in the plan than I can cover in one column.

I think Wall Street gives more money to Democrats than Republicans because Democrats are more difficult to persuade.

-FR- It's hilarious to read what educated people have to say about the budget proposal. One of my partners put it very succinctly "Because it's based in fantasy and they're out of their minds."

Notice the last two conservatives (Sanity & Termie) didn't even bother to challenge what Mr. Krugman states in his article? Not even one item. Instead, they try a typical GOP tactic: undermine the credibility of the writer (Krugman) or the person posting it (Brain). Its their belief that if either are shown not to be credibile, they dont have to listen to the material. Unfortunately, much of what Mr. Krugman stated has already been in discussions, analysized and debated in the past. He is mere pointing out that the history this GOP plan is based on, failed to achieve the goals a long time ago; Why should it work this time? Its like dropping a penny over and over, and expecting "this time, THIS TIME, it'll float in the air by the will of God!". What do we call doing the same action, over and over again, and expecting a different result: insanity.

Reducing the budget spending, does not nessisarily equate to a lower debt. To simply bring it in line with the Bush 'retarded' frame work of economics is unrealistic at best, and laughable to implement at worst. It is funny to watch the GOP ignore the 800 lb gorilla that's not only in the room, but a chair most of them use to sit on. They evade, step-aside, dodge, and even hide from just raising the taxes. They simply hold this silly belief that by cutting spending, they will increase jobs in the USA, since the spending will automatically turn into tax cuts. As its been pointed out, a reduction in spending will cost Americans in the public (minority) and public (majority) sectors to lose their jobs; the affects being felt 'down stream'. Even when you point out to them, using small words that this is bad, they simply snort back "they'll just find jobs". Yeah....during a recession.....with high unemployment.....?

As Selectivelight's friend point out, this plan by the GOP is pathetic. All this is, is playing politics with people's lives. This plan simply doesn't make any good improvements on the situtation, neither short or long term. All it exists to do, is be candy for the masses of uninformed conservatives.

Look, it was Reagan who merely gave cover for a pol to call themselves 'fiscal conservatives' while becoming Keynesians.

John Maynard, 1st Baron Keynes. 1883--1946, English economist. In The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money (1936) he argued that unemployment was characteristic of an unregulated market economy and therefore to achieve a high level of employment it was necessary for governments to manipulate the overall level of demand through monetary and fiscal policies (including, when appropriate, deficit financing). He helped to found the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

Orwell's 1984 begins with words, and why ? To change their meaning. So if you can over 30-40 years if necessary...successfully change the meaning of words, you are on your way to totally controlling society.

So here we have a so-called fiscal conservative putting forth a plan that according to many analysts...increases borrowing (deficit spending) by $6 trillion over the next 30 years. ($46 trillion to $40 trillion) This is caused as usual by reducing taxes on capital (corporations) again falsely promulgating the idea that this creates jobs in America even when the same 40 year history clearly refutes that theory.

There are NO...repeat NO conservatives in Washington...merely politicians, petty little power barons, concerned only with their own narrow, short term self interest the most important of which is...get re-elected. If changing the meaning of just what is 'fiscal conservative' really means, to feed your contributors and to obtain a flood of free-speech...er money, to do it...then so be it.

As James Buckley, the last and maybe the ONLY person in the history of America, elected senator (NY or any office) from the Conservative party was told by John Tower in a meeting of freshman repubs..."Your first priority (is to what ?)...is to get reelected."

Buckley couldn't believe it thinking his first priority was to his constituents and his country. He served just the one term and got out. Get a grip kinkroids...the govt. of the US is so far detached from American society as to become unrecognizable.
