I'm listening to "Washington This Week". Does the posturing and preening and hyperdrama of the budget fight make you as nauseous as it does me?

All this hand wringing over mean spirited cuts for 2% of the budget that won't do a damn thing for our deficit disgusts me.

Not nauseous as much as exasperated.  Evidently, not a single Dem understands how to negotiate.  The entire negotiation is over how much cutting their prize projects will take.  At no time have they proposed cutting defense or rescinding tax cuts on the wealthy.

Propose reducing/eliminating the Bush tax cuts on those earning over $250K, and when the GOP refuse, paint them as heartless bastards who would rather deny benefits to the truly needy than disallow the rich their yachts.  How hard can that be?  Dummies.

If I were someone who still had any hope at all for the future of this country, or who still believed in this country in any way or to any degree, then yes - it certainly would. However, I am not, so it doesn't. I'm just sitting on the edge of the cliff, eating popcorn and watching the train careen headlong down the side of the mountain.

I guess if I had no hope, I wouldn't care, either.

Yeah, they could have ended foreign aid, the energy and education dept's, EPA and had The People on their sides.
And the figure of $113 B for last year that illegal aliens cost this country would bring the total of those things to what,...$200-$300 B?
Mothball six Carrier Battle Groups, two Army Divisions and get us out of Iraq (like they're supposed to do in December) and Afganistan and that would bring us over a trillion.
If you cost it out killing (one) taliban or alqeada must be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars!
Surely there has to be a more cost effective way to kill those savages.

Popeye, as "independent()" as you are I'm surprised that even the EPA would fall under your cost-cutting measures!

Ever the pragmatist!!!

Sure the great "moderate independent" is all going to back the days which corporations just pumped and dumped whatever they wanted.

You all know they policed themselves so well in the past.

FLC, all the corporations are "pumping and dumping" in China now.

You just go further and further down the rabbit hole don't you sailor boy?
Your reading of what the "people" want is ,of course, just one more example of the dementia that has,of late, been the hallmark of all your posts.

I think what the ultimate tragedy here is... is that so many of my compatriots are taken in by this sort of thing. The posturing and preening and strutting happens because it happens to work.

People are so fucking stupid.

I don't think it's because they're dummies, I think it's because the Democrats are 50% as corrupt as the Republicans.

You are of course suggesting that they are merely the lesser of two evils.I am naturally cynical....but to go that far in my outlook would lead to long term clinical depression.
I try to avoid that

Robert Kennedy Junior said the Democrats are 65% as corrupt as the Republicans and Ralph Nader said Democrats and Republicans are both corrupt, so I guess for him it's 100%. Better to get depressed and confront the situation maybe.

Nope, not at all. It's all just a stageshow. They're playing for the same team, and have been for about 30 years now.

But the people don't want to hear it. They want to continue both worshiping the system and playing in the partisan sandbox.

Oh... but if I could just get my politicians in there, then eeeeeverything would change for the better...

Wake up people. Politics is a business, not a benevolent institution designed to serve the people. Politicians sell themselves to the highest bidder... and the highest bidder ain't you.

Part of what made me ill was that this was a game played with real people's lives.

While politicians were emitting CO2, I had friends and colleagues sweating over how they'd pay the rent and feed their kids.

Unfortunately, it seems that extreme financial adversity is exactly what it takes to wake up a populace. People don't seem to rise against a corrupt system until a large percentage of them are already in dire straits.

Hopefully we'll be smarter than this... but I doubt it.
