Yeah, it seems you have repeated what your ancestors left behind, the question is, was it inevitable, or did you lose the way somewhere along the path.

Aint that the truth.

Good post.

I think the problem with some people is Americans treat other people around the world well but they could treat their own citizens better and more civilized, especially with health care.

Next time you folks in Europe feel like calling Americans self center stingy and only thinking of ourselves… Take an hour and watch THIS.

How many of you even knew of the 1921 famine? I didn't until this afternoon...an amazing story of compassion of one people to another

Brian I agree with you...but I don't think it has anything to do with civilized. I think it is a difference in philosophy.

One view wants to help the needy even if they don’t help themselves.

The other view wants to help people help themselves so they can afford to pay their own way.

Myself I understand and I think most Americans understand there is a middle ground. Our whole civilization is based on hard work and self reliance. It just rubs many people the wrong way to see panhandlers on the corners and people at the soup lines and not at the employment office.

Even in this great video I posted America did not just give out food but also seed for the next years planting.. They expected the Russian people to work so they did not have to come back and save their children again.

I don’t think the American ways are wrong at all and I’m glad there are two groups to keep these varying views in check.

I have spent time in other parts of the world and in general they are way more laid back about work ethic and punctuality and the American ways often seem pushy…but they are no more than we ask of ourselves.
