I'm definitely a woman, couldn't care less about the ring, in fact my other half proposed to me with one of my own rings, spur of the moment... I'm not too much into rings anyway and why blowing so much money on something that doesn't really give you anything? I never could understand big wedding blow outs, people spending so much money on one day, stress themselves silly over everything being perfect, can't enjoy it at all and easily blow the down payment on a house on a wedding, then pay the debt back for years after the divorce. Nothing wrong if somebody wants the fairytale wedding with the dress that looks like you should be standing on top of a cake and that will only be worn once, just wouldn't work for me.
Unless the ring is really important, sod the ring and he can always give you a bigger one when you can both afford it.
