bigblackone -> LOCATION - UK why just put UK!!!!! (4/16/2011 4:07:51 AM)

Why do people seem to think that putting there location has the UK is information anyone needs, if it does not say what area of the UK. Or do they think that 800 miles is an acceptable distance to travel to go and meet somone. UK is a big place, it combines 4 countries, at least put what country you are in! Surely it is better to at least put what county you are in so people have an idea of where in the UK you are.

myotherself -> RE: LOCATION - UK why just put UK!!!!! (4/16/2011 4:14:00 AM)

Some people don't put their county or town because to them it's not relevant - they want to meet the right person and distance is no object.

Others don't put their location because they're not looking.

Others would rather do the approaching, and not having a location reduces the amount of random mail from 'locals'.

If there is a profile of someone that you like and it doesn't have a location on it, it only takes a few minutes to craft a message which asks where they are.

Bradshaw101 -> RE: LOCATION - UK why just put UK!!!!! (4/16/2011 4:28:07 AM)

I put UK and my nearest city. However it seems to me that I can't select a county, the only options are American States which seems a little odd.
Am I the only one with this problem?

Ariane23 -> RE: LOCATION - UK why just put UK!!!!! (4/16/2011 5:18:57 AM)

I'm with the OP on this one, I tend to skip those that just say UK as insufficient information. And there is always text for specific information, or phrases like 'distance is no object'.

GreedyTop -> RE: LOCATION - UK why just put UK!!!!! (4/16/2011 6:01:13 AM)

Just putting the country in without teh city can act as a filter, just as choosing not top contact someone without a city listed is a filter.

There is nothing in TOS that says you must put in that info.

coookie -> RE: LOCATION - UK why just put UK!!!!! (4/16/2011 8:14:23 AM)

Because they do not care for whatever reason. Some people just put Canada. That is an even larger landmass. If it bothers you do not contact them.

What this smart bunny said [:)]

I live in the UK and at present in the england part of it...however, yes, when I mentioned my area in the past I had annoying trolls bothering me to try to get laid...which quite frankly I am not interested in with a stranger unless I meet him as a pro sub (via a different page not via here) or am in a relationship with him.

Now, with not being from the UK and not having the aim to remain over here in the long run, then why should I mention where I am living over here? [8|]

I had folks who said I should mention New Zealand due to my plan to potentially relocate to there...which quite frankly ain't working cause why should I mention New Zealand in my profile when I don't live there?

I am honest with stating that I do live in the UK. However, as I do not date over here and have no desire to start doing so and couldn't care less about local trolls who want to get laid, why should I mention where I live in the UK? [8|]

Quite frankly, it ain't anyones business where I live, some folks who know me from the other side know where I live in the UK but for the general board its none of their business.

So get over it [:D]

Missokyst -> RE: LOCATION - UK why just put UK!!!!! (4/16/2011 8:36:57 AM)

I can see what the OP means.
Here in the United States someone can put in
United States
And then search only in Ca, Fla, NY, ect.

If you put in
United Kingdom

There is no further criteria for separating location. So, someone could be in London, or they might be in Scotland.
That means that residents can only put any other info directly into the profile.

No, only if you want people to message you.

I've established that Canada rends to be sometimes a default. people I've spoken to have been surprised that it was on their profile, when they were clearly (by their city) in UK.

stellauk -> RE: LOCATION - UK why just put UK!!!!! (4/16/2011 11:40:05 AM)

Why not just revamp CM so that it's like e-Bay so that people are required to list not just their location but height, weight, birth sex, gender, sexual orientation, past medical history, income level, employment history, current employer, diet, interests, and how many times they go for a pee during a typical day?

I mean, CM could emulate e-Bay so that people can list a 'Shag Me Now' option.

However as far as I'm aware asking someone a question doesn't cost anything.

Sorry dude, but that was fuuuuuny!! The UK is tiny. Little itsy bitsy teenie weenie. 800 miles is a day trip. You are complaining about that? Hell just listing Ontario means they can be up to 3 days drive away never mind the profiles listed as Canada...now we're talking big.

Did it ever occur to you that they list only UK because they don't want random internet people like you or me knowing where they live? It helps prevent unwanted stalker attention. Sure its unlikely if they live in London...big place with millions of people to hide among, but what if they live in West Bumbury, population 150? there's a lot of really small towns and vilages over there.

Get to know them and then if you click, find out where they live. If they are worth fucking, surely thay are worth going a mere 800 miles to fuck.

Ariane23 -> RE: LOCATION - UK why just put UK!!!!! (4/17/2011 1:50:49 AM)

800 miles is a long way when you're walking.

And it's not about required information, but people who profess to be seeking but give so little information that it's not worth the time to play 20 questions when there are plenty of others clearly in a doable distance. Sure it doesn't take long to ask one person a few questions. But it isn't just one person, is it?

There's a bug in the system - if you put UK when you sign up it switches you to Canada, and vice versa. No idea why.

GreedyTop -> RE: LOCATION - UK why just put UK!!!!! (4/17/2011 5:25:00 AM)

I've never had issue asking someone in the UK in the first email what part of the UK they are in.. *shrug*  iot's no different than asking someone ok, you're in Tampa.. what PART of Tampa?"

bigblackone -> RE: LOCATION - UK why just put UK!!!!! (4/17/2011 10:17:36 AM)

Arpig, nice reply it made me laugh,

Take it easy

pahunkboy -> RE: LOCATION - UK why just put UK!!!!! (4/17/2011 11:28:09 AM)

I doubt folks in Ireland -  describe themself as UK.

myotherself -> RE: LOCATION - UK why just put UK!!!!! (4/17/2011 11:31:32 AM)

some do - depending on whether they're north or south.

Point taken.

Termyn8or -> RE: LOCATION - UK why just put UK!!!!! (4/17/2011 1:27:13 PM)

FR

They probably should address this, I know there's a suggestion box somewhere. Reason being is - what if I am in Detroit, Michigan and some hottie is in Ontario. You could ride a bicycle there except for that one minor detail :-) But if the apple of my eye is in Saskatchuan(sp) that's a different story.

It may be impractical to include all the cities in the selection, but the countries shouldn't be too much of a problem. In the old days I would've had a look at the source code to see how hard it would be, but the code has gotten too complex for me these days.

I think this is something worth fixing, being an international site.

because its never a waste of time to talk to people, and to get to know them. you would be surprised at what they can teach you. and if there are plenty of others who are so doable, why do you care about the ones without that info listed?

but it is. just 1 person at any given moment. you may correspond with 100 people a day, but you do so 1 person at a time, so for that little span of time there are just the two of you, all the others are put away on the shelf and they do not matter.
