The written form is libel and libel and slander can both be prosecuted. If the person committing libel/slander can prove the statements are true, they will not be found guilty of committing libel/slander since the statements written/verbal have to be false for libel/slander to have occurred. If the statements are true.. that's just gossip and one can choose to listen or ignore gossip at their own discretion.

So, we need a report button for those scorned individuals who are just trying to bash other's for the sake of bashing.

There already is one.  On the collarme.com side of the house, click the 'Support' link at the bottom of the page.  In the 'Type of Request' pulldown, select 'Other'.  Type in your message. Click 'Submit Request' when done.

It's much easier than starting a DramaFest in the forums, unless that was your goal from the start.

Sorry, neither can be prosecuted because, unless you are talking about seditious libel, neither is a crime.  They are torts which means the injured party may bring suit against the libeler or slanderer.

In libel, three things need to be proven in order for the suit to be successful.  That the libel was published which is generally a given, but would not be the case if it were in an email addressed only to the person being libeled.  That the person being libeled was identified, which probably means being named with something other than a screen name.  And, finally, that the material was defamatory.  This means it's got to be really bad.  For example, calling someone gay has been held no longer to be defamatory.

Truth is a defence against damages only in some jurisdictions.  For example, in English law until recently, the rule was "the greater the truth, the greater the libel.

I don't believe I stated anything that wasn't factually accurate.

– Since 2002, there have been three different criminal-libel prosecutions in Kansas, two of them involving newspapers and criticism of public officials.

– In 2003, the Utah Supreme Court struck down an 1878 criminal-libel statute in a case involving the prosecution of a high school student who had posted disparaging remarks about his principal and fellow students on his Web page. But a 1973 criminal-libel law remains on the books in Utah.

Ok, let's assume I did click a support link on the other side.  Then you don't have the original e-mail, which to my knowledge being a mod on other sites means you need to do much more footwork.  Since I know being a mod is more often than not a thankless task with 120 hour work weeks.  The suggestion was merely add a button so you could report it to make it easier on the mods.
Don't like my suggestion then do not take it.
In my 3856 posts to these boards over the year's it is the first time I've ever been considered a drama queen.  So, if you need to believe that then so be it as well.
However, since the facts are I did not paste the original e-mail here nor did I post any names.  I made a suggestion I don't see how anyone could consider that starting drama.  I think in reality that would be starting conversation.

Cutting and pasting from email to the Support entry field works just as well and has the added benefit of not making it so easy for the random user to just bounce frivolous emails to support, clogging their queue.  I can only imagine how such a button would be abused to report the most miniscule of problems and diverting attention away from the more serious ones.

I think EVERYONE has misunderstood the OP.  She's not talking about reporting someone who offended her.  She is talking about reporting someone who e-mailed HER about SOMEONE ELSE because that other person offended the e-mailer.  There's a difference, and I'd also be disturbed to get an unsolicited e-mail from someone badmouthing a third party.

I get emails like that all the time.  I get emails from people saying "if you are contacted by so-and-so don't reply, they are...."  and the email usually goes on to tell how some sub wasn't sub enough to some Dom/me and blah, blah, blah, blah.

What they don't realize is to me, they make themselves look so completely stupid and petty that I wouldn't give them or their opinion a single thought.  IMO serious and intelligent people would give no creedance to such drivel anyway.  Delete it and be done with it.

Sometimes it seems people's desire to one-up or put-down in the forums trumps the valuable opportunity to discuss a real issue.  Rather than reply in kind to the issue raised, you end up getting all this flip... crap.

I think the OP has a valid point and that it WOULD indeed be nice if there was a way to post experiences (what the hell, let's go with both positive and negative ones) so as to inform others of what they may wish/need to know.

Hard to stop the ones who would abuse that, though.  People who aren't having success might use it to slam those who don't "pick: them, etc.

When you think about the main topic and population of this site, I think they actually do pretty well.  I've been annoyed at people myself, and have had to just deal with it, rather than "report" them.

Typically, crap and losers are instantly forgettable.
