I dunno what you use Hunky but I don't seem to have that problem. One time I thought I did but in was in the source file. It was Manowar - Warriors Of The World. It makes this funny noise in the beginning, a few seconds in. I got like three different files of it and they are all the same. Ironically it makes me want to buy the CD just to find out if it was actually made that way. There were some problems with splicing files in WinMX, but those days are over, I don't even know if MX will even connect anymore, haven't tried in years. But about toasting a HD ? Just like you have an extra drive for files, a hell of alot of programs will run without being installed. I got a hell of alot of programs that will run what I would call "portably". That means you can go into program files, copy the program onto anything, and run it on another PC no problem. It won't have the file associations and a few other things but that doesn't matter sometimes. Bearshare, MX, PSP, Adobe Photoshop, Microsft Works (!) even AOL 7 (!) will run without being installed. The problem comes sometimes running it off a CD or something that is read only - you can't save any new settings sometimes. If you can it's in the registry, which some claim will slow down the PC, but that's bullshit, just like clearing the internet cache, it's very overrated. So is defragging, these modern HDs are fast enough you don't have to - for performance. But a defrag will help the drive itself, in that it won't have to work as hard. I haven't defragged in probably eight years and my shit runs like lightning. If something takes even two seconds to open I think something is wrong. But when that little balloon pops up and says "Your computer might be at risk" I know it's not fucking kidding. Anyway, in anticipation of the demise of P2P I am getting ready to capture straight off streaming video and audio. On "the other" PC I did a couple of video captures and it's starting to look like two gigs of RAM might not be enough. I can do audio just fine on the older box with only a half gig, but video is a whole different animal it seems. Now let's hear from the RIAA and MCAA. The capture software is really nothing more than a newfangled VCR. Sony won in court a looong time ago about that. So if they give it to us and we record it, and they decide that is illegal, then they will have to arrest everyone who has ever used a VCR or a DVDR. This is what I am saying, this can be argued down. Once Sony won that lawsuit in the supreme court that was it. The DMCA doesn't matter if it goes against a supreme court ruling. The problem is proving that it does. When I said don't DL anything right now it wasn't because of copyrights, it is because they are maliciously attacking people's PCs. A long time ago when I was first learning electronics I posed this question : What if a station transmitted a signal that fucks up your TV ? What if eh. I know they could've in the old days, now TVs are supposedly protected from that. Even so, people who watch something with reuters at the bottom of the screen all year, if it's a CRT based projection TV it will burn the phosphors. To my knowledge you can't sue them for that, but when it happens it causes over a thousand dollars damage. (including labor) People just continue to watch it with the screens burnt. We got the short end of the stick, holding on tight is the trick. Sooner or later they are going to run into someone who can make the case against them and their tails will be between their legs. That's why they wear suits, so you can't see that. Their lawyers are no better than anyone else's, all they got is money and that's all they know how to use. Their complacency will be their downfall. T^T
