Since my university degree is in English with an emphasis on creative writing, I'm familiar with quite a few classic writers of both poetry and prose.  I prefer Poe's short fiction to his poetry but that's hardly relevant to this thread.  Please stop hijacking introduction posts, NS.  Even the mods will tell you this section is for welcoming new members.  Take your sideshow back to Off Topic and Polls & Random.

But now that you mention it... other than Poe I adore H.P. Lovecraft and Guy De Maupassant. They were all kind of inter-connected... And of course, for all the kinksters I highly recommend the works of the Marquis De Sade. (The guy Sadism is named after!) Especially The 120 Days of Sodom.
