Yeah, I get the impression that Donald Trump would leave his own mother bleeding in a gutter if he received some kind of glorification (even in his own mind) out of it.

Ive never liked Seinfeld, meh, but he went up in my estimation.
Rich, polarization... LMFAO puhleeeze  you are the pot calling the kettle grimy arse with that post[;)]

IF they were plain nuts, I would stick to my commitment. I suspect I would have had some suspician before agreeing that they might not be .. umm.. balanced. But anyway I slice it, unless they were violently unbalanced, yeah, I would do it.

A Phelps endorsement ? hmmmmm... I want to say: as long as it was a simple gathering, not a gathering to raise money for or recruit zombies for Phelps, I would still do it. After all, that would be the honorable thing to do. But I can't sat I would. [&:]

In the Seinfeld/Trump case : I just can't see beyond the fact that it was a charity event. I'm involved in several charities whose leaders' political ideology differs from mine 1000%. I just wouldn't walk away from a cause I feel passionately about becasue one/some/many who work for the same charity are going to vote, make campaign contributions etc for a different candidate than me.

And I will beat you to it, Owner[;)] : If one of my charities was holding and event and Phelps was the keynote speaker.. I would have ample warning that he was going to be the guest of honor and I would have argued long and hard against it. I would have to question my own sanity that I missed a hint that this organization could possibly see Phelps as a way to raise money for them and re evaluate my continued participation. In other words, drop out and find another group who supports the same cause.

I am trying to look at it as a Dad, whose son was disrespected < in the Dad's eyes > and a Dad's lashing back. Doesn't make it right, but it's understandable, to me.

Some middle class guy in suburbia raising money for his son's baseball team, sure.  But when a billionaire and a 'trust fund baby' fill the slots for dad and son,  then it becomes less understandable to me.

Bottom line, Dad's big mouth ruined it for son.

I can see that, too.  Can you?

Seinfeld made the commitment in January. He knows who Trump is and how he is. As a comedian he certainly could have used his stand up as a way to show his disagreement.

Personally, I think they both have an inflated sense of themselves. I doubt people's political believes are going to be swayed by the thoughts or word of either of these two.

The entire birther bullshit has only been coming out of Trumps mouth only recently - well after January.

I dont see Seinfeld making personal hay on the issue. He simply has a disagreement with Trump's recent (less than 3 weeks old) tirades, and is respectfully exiting.

We, the spectators, are making more hay out of it than Seinfeld is.

Maybe the word means something different in Canada, Lucy. Even when there is fundamental and insurmountable disagreement, I'm always looking for that piece of common ground on something.

Lucylastic -> RE: Trump and Seinfeld - complete lack of class. (4/22/2011 7:08:11 PM)

EoH I have to agree with you , I dont know Seinfeld, but given Trumps three week obsession with the birther crap, having seen him do more interviews and more outrageous shit coming out of his mouth with each one, he is completely laughable and I dont blame anyone not wanting to appear with the overblown ego and complete twattery that is Donald Trump.

Rich you forget Im english, so it could be a nuance.
You do have your moments, and I have mine... but saying Obama Uber Alles! isnt common ground in english, canadian or american. no matter how much you try to pass it off as such.
Just wanted to point it out[:)]

Apparently, the vast gulf of sarcasm is yet to bridged...

English, huh? You know, the closest thing I have to an "ethnic identity" would be Irish/Scottish, so that may be a bit of the problem right there.

Lucylastic -> RE: Trump and Seinfeld - complete lack of class. (4/22/2011 7:31:49 PM)

yeah most of you americans just cant get it right, it seems to happen a lot.... it might help to use the rolling eye emoticon dear heart...or I could give lessons.[:D][:D]
I dont have problems with the scots or the irish, if they have trouble with me, thats their issue.  Apart from family(of which there are many irish scots and welsh)  I dont need that misguided hate in my life.

You can't give away the gag every time, Lucy, nor always worry about what might fly over a few heads.

I smirk aloud at my discretion, and play, at my whim. [:D]

Brain -> RE: Trump and Seinfeld - complete lack of class. (4/22/2011 8:03:42 PM)

Seinfeld still donated money to Donald Trump's son's charity so I'm okay still with Jerry Seinfeld although Trump is getting really sleazy and is doing a disservice to politics and to himself.

"Seinfeld canceled on Trump because of Trump's birther comments.  I consider that deplorable."

I'm not even going to ask for an explanation for that one, and please don't volunteer one. Thank you.

Anyway, where were we here?

Oh yes, people claiming that the birther thing has any whatsoever to do with 'politics'? The birther thing is beyond politics, it is questioning the person in a much more fundamental way. It is attacking the person, in an attempt to bypass and override such icky details as policy some don't agree with. It is directly ad homenim in every way.

But really.

Did Seinfeld decline because of Trump's proposed foreign policy? His proposal for the budget? His stance on abortion or medicaid or subsidies to large corporations? That is, actual political issues?

Any of that?

Explain to me if you will what some idiotic questioning or assertion that has nothing whatsoever to do with politics as most would consider it means in all these claims that Seinfeld declined the invite because of 'politics'.

After having someone flush down my obvious teasing comment Rich I would say that there is a lot of  flying whoooshing sounds over some heads, beyond the usual
However in my usual fashion I too shall smirk and torment.

Sorry, but charity events *trump* political nonsense.  I'm glad that Seinfeld made the donations to the Eric Trump Foundation and St Judes to attempt to make up for his cancellation, but I think he should have fulfilled his commitment.

I agree, he was supposed to be doing this to help the kids. It's just a shame that he isn't a right winger. I can think of a few people who would have loved to use something like this to show us all how hateful republicans are. Now all we can do is call Jerry the asshat.

I can't blame Seinfield entirely, he was probably worried that The Donald's haircut could be contagious!

Is there a special school that Republicans go to and learn self-pity and the victim mentality?

Oh yeah, I forgot.

Fox News University with Professor Hannity.

Yup, it's right down the street from where you buy those really big paint brushes.
