http://marquee.blogs.cnn.com/2011/04/21/seinfeld-cancels-on-trump-because-of-obama-comments/

Seinfeld canceled on Trump because of Trump's birther comments.  I consider that deplorable.

But Trump's response is unbelievable.

1. He mentions what a terrible job Obama is doing as President.  Classless to slip it in everywhere, and totally not germane to whether he is legally eligible or not.  Stick to the topic, Donald.
2. "I appeared on your lousy show, and it stunk!"

The guy is a five year old throwing a tantrum.

Sorry, but charity events *trump* political nonsense.  I'm glad that Seinfeld made the donations to the Eric Trump Foundation and St Judes to attempt to make up for his cancellation, but I think he should have fulfilled his commitment.

I applaud his decision,if Trump wants to stake out the idiot position....Seinfeld is correct in wanting to distance himself. Why should he take the chance that he is tarnished by association.

But Mike, Donald Trump Sr. isn't affiliated with the Eric Trump foundation. Why are the sins of the father being visited upon the son and worse.. on St. Judes? St. Judes is an incredible org and they do such great work there for sick kids. I can't applaud the decision to screw over sick little kids for a few politico points that will mean nothing 5 years from now.

Such a shame but kudo's to Brett Michael's for stepping up to the plate despite his own illness. Brett rocks.. literally.

And Seinfeld wrote a check,as a matter of fact according to the article ,2 checks...one to younger Trump's charity the other to St.Judes itself...Trump senior is at the moment turning everything he does into an opportunity to declare he is the candidate of choice for idiots...Why shouldn't Seinfeld envision an event where Trump(sr.) once more proves he is an attention whore?

I understand but writing a check for child support isn't the same thing as going to visit your child. Those kids aren't going to understand monetary funding and they aren't going to get to laugh along with Jerry. There's a world of difference.

Is setting aside the politics and focusing on the kids for just one day too much to ask? How many votes would D. Trump garner if he turned an occasion for those kids into a attention seeking source to score political points? I'm thinking it would have the opposite effect. The GOP already has enough truble without The Donald causing a stir with sick little kids as the catalyst. If he does that, then truly, I think the idiot label would apply but all that said, I don't find it worthy as excuse or explanation for Jerry's action.

Is Trump going to be there? If Donald is taking part in this charity then Jerry has every right to distance himself from this nut bag.

Fuck Trump, you cannot allow him positive media coverage when he is obviously an idiot. Donald Trump is only concerned about one person, Donald Trump.

He is one of the least charitable people on the fucking planet.

Bullshit Rich,Trump has not staked out a political position...he has staked a claim to the birther vote...that is a call to the fringe,if Seinfeld does not want to be ,in any way, associated with such a position he has every right to remain at arms length from it.
What,in order not to appear polarized, there is now some obligation to "mix" with someone so diametrically opposed to your own position....what is that some right wing version of pc?

What "kids" were going to be laughing with Jerry...he cancelled an appearence at a benefit.....A fund raising benefit, folks in tuxedos, charitable event....not a tour of the children's ward at the hospital.

Why would Seinfeld expect anything at all from the Donald other than what he is doing right now.The GOP has no way of reigning Trump   .Trump is not a sage veteran politician who would instinctively know that such an event  was not the place or the time,he is a media whore who will turn on every time a mike or a camera is pointed at him.
Again I have no issue with Jerry....smart move on his behalf.

Actually, it's a golf tournament & benefit dinner and they are bringing some of the kids from the hospital out to play miniature golf while the grown-ups play their rounds. They set up a little minature golf course every year for them. Cute, huh? If I recall, several children are also invited to attend the dinner.

Let's agree to disagree on this one, though, k, Mike? For the kids. Fair enough?

Be real for a moment, the kids probably don't even know who Jerry is. His most popular show was over 10+ years ago. The goal of the event was to raise money for the cause. He didn't go, but contributed money not once, but twice.

People sometimes must learn the hard way that although we have freedom of speech, that doesn't mean freedom from the consequences of that speech. When you are a figure in the public eye, what you say may rub people the wrong way. When that happens, you must accept there will be consequences.

Fuck the kids. If they were domi boys and girls they would be able to tough this kind of shit out.

They are being coddled. Seinfeld did the right thing.

The conversation will have long moved on by the time some mod gets around to approving this, but I just had to say this, even if there will be a couple of days' time lag...

Of course the American right are eager to mix with people who oppose their positions! That's why Hanoi Jane and Tina Fey are such a big draw at Republican fundraisers, isn't it?

Part of the freedoms we enjoy in America, rich, is the freedom of association.

It doesn`t just apply to those one wishes to associate with but also to those one doesn`t want to associate with.

I, have every right not to associate with bigots and skin-heads w/ swastikas tattooed on their foreheads or Islamophobes or Anti-Semites or WPC members or koreshians or nazis or nutty tea-baggers or anyone I find disgusting or low class,....or birthers.

You, have every right to do so.

Irresistibly,apparently.

Looking at it without a political twist:

Seinfeld had every * right * to beg out, of course. That doesn't make it the proper thing to do. Kinda like a friend/aquaintence of mine asking me to cater a dinner party for them and I find out they are voting for Candidate X, and I don't like candidate X, so I say... sorry no can do, here's a grocery gift card. It's distasteful, imo. I also base that on my belief that if you make a commitment to a charity and others are depending on you to deliver your part in the charity event, you have a moral obligation to fullfill it, barring a significant complication. I think it was disrespectful to St. Judes.

Donald Trumps response was indeed immature, imo. But.. I am trying to look at it as a Dad, whose son was disrespected < in the Dad's eyes > and a Dad's lashing back. Doesn't make it right, but it's understandable, to me.

What if you were hosting a friends event and found out they were nuts or just endorsed Rev.Fred Phelps?

The dichotomy is left/right.

It`s not political

It`s ass-hat-turned loon/normal.

I look at this as the Donald getting a taste of his own medicine.  It is not like Trump has not followed through on things because he did not like a persons personal choices  ie: Rosie, slammed her because of her sexuality, Same thing with other celeb's who are out about being gay.  He does not support them or their causes because he has a personal issue with the person not the charity

So Seinfield does not want to support something Trumps has his name attached to, well that's life.
