I agree and think we should offer it to another space agency if they are willing to maintain it.   It will fall into the atmosphere around 2019 unless given a boost to higher orbit.   However, it is unlikely that it will go that long without an equipment failure taking it off line.

The James Webb Space Telescope is scheduled to replace it around 2015, but it's spectrum is different and it won't be able to see the same things as Hubble.

A true replacement for it is planned for 2025, but I doubt that it will get funded with NASA's current focus being on a Mars shot (something I don't think we can afford either.)

I've a few buddies in the astronomy business, and many hate NASA's focus on manned missions.  They say that a hell of a lot more science gets done with satellites or unmanned probes than anything manned.
