Edwynn -> "awaiting approval" (4/23/2011 8:28:26 PM)

I sometimes see [awaiting approval] in place of some posts.

If I may ask, what does this mean?

I have seen this on several occasions, but I have yet to see posts thus labeled as ever coming through, or being 'approved.'

I'm not sure if this has to do with some moderator sanction or what, but even if that be the case something more descriptive might be helpful.

Anyone with experience or understanding of this phenomena are welcome to enlighten me here.

pahunkboy -> RE: "awaiting approval" (4/23/2011 8:30:24 PM)

It mean the post must be approved by a mod.

If a person repeatedly violates TOS- they are moderated for 2 weeks.

SylvereApLeanan -> RE: "awaiting approval" (4/23/2011 8:36:43 PM)

What pahunkboy said.  If the post that's waiting for approval doesn't get it, it's because the person on moderation didn't learn his/her lesson.

But I never see these such-labeled posts 2 weeks later. Never, in fact.

There are some who blatantly and thoroughly violate TOS on a regular basis who's posts I never see this same treatment for.

But at the same time, I think you actually explained quite a lot to me here, pahunk.

I'd like to see some sources cited for this.

Why do I get the feeling you knew what [awaiting approval] meant? You seem to know who violates terms, gets modded, and who doesn't.... seems there is a selective gap in your knowledge base.

Edwynn -> RE: "awaiting approval" (4/23/2011 8:45:05 PM)

I in fact had no idea.

When I saw this applied to at least a couple of posters whom I never witnessed such TOS violation from, it made me curious as to what the cause.

But otherwise, your point?

A question for the mods directly-  off the board.

He seems to think he knows what the mods are or aren't doing.  Let him support his argument...if he can.

Agreed.

Except that the real issue is already displayed here.

Actually, Edwy, a new thread that experienced a delay has just opened up in P&R. Paused posts do usually see the light of day eventually. I don't think there is a set time period. As determined at the discretion of the mods.

Get out of line, you get to go sit in the corner.

Users are put on moderation for anywhere from one week to six months.

That does not mean their posts wait that long for approval or denial.  Approval or denial occurs between 24 hours and 72 hours.  Any posts left awaiting approval after 72 hours should be brought to our attention by the user under moderation.

Regarding other users not under moderation:  Some users think we see every post that occurs on this website, and that if a post exists, we must approve of its existence.  This is not so.  We rely on our users to utilize the "report post" function to alert us to problem posts.

Also, if two people are having a war of personal attacks, and Person A goes on moderation and Person B does not, it does not mean one was favored over the other.  It may mean, for example, that Person A already received a warning for the same behavior and was now given moderation, and Person B was now given a warning.  It also means that when Person A writes to us and complains that he was given moderation and Person B was not, and "it's not fair", we will not tell him the circumstances with Person B because we do not discuss actions regarding other users.

i think it has to do with context and intent.
"you're being an idiot" or "that's idiotic" probably won't get you moderated, while "you're an idiot" probably will.

i haven't been here long, but i like the moderation here, they leave us alone to trade barbs and mild insults, and are happy to leave you to be hoist on your own petard when you get out of line

hannah lynn

and it seems 21 has answered more authoritatively while i was typing...don't i feel like the only white guy at a reggae party now.

It would be hard to "know" what someone posted if the mods cleaned up the offending posts... I have seen people modded with lightening speed when they step far far over the line, and it did not take long to clean up the evidence of what it was that put them there. I have seen entire threads disappear that landed a particular poster into hot water. The mods never talk about offenders and what they did to get on [awaiting approval], so it would be pretty hard for them to defend their positions. They shouldn't have to. This is a private site, and when you enter it you post at the owner's pleasure. If the owner empowers certain individuals to police it, and you offend them, then they have every right to point you in the direction of the exit.

And for those who do not like this, they can always ask for their subscription fee back.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it was one less of whatever it was than would have earned a ban.
