I agree about seeing any of the Prey novels by John Sandford, and any of the Robicheaux series by James Lee Burke..... Man Plus by Frederick Pohl........ The Hour of The Dragon by Robert E. Howard..... Isaac's Storm by Erik Larson...... A Catskill Eagle by Robert B. Parker....

Level -> RE: Books made into movies I'd like to see if made (5/11/2006 4:24:22 AM)

And I'd like to see an anthology of my three favorite Harlan Ellison short stories done -- "Repent, Harlequin!" Said the Tick-tock Man, Count the Clock That Tells the Time, and my all time favorite, The Deathbird.

Wow!  So many great ideas posted here.  I'd like to see ALL of them, if Hollywood doesn't screw it up, that is...

Heinlein, Niven, Stirling or Turtledove would all make into movies with ease, I suspect.

BTW:  If you haven't read "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress", you're missing out.

......what no votes for Fritz Leibers Grey Mouser and Fafhrd series?

Good choice. It's been a looooong time since I read any of his work, but I have a paperback somewhere.... I wasn't familiar with Leiber when I was a kid, but was drawn by the cover art (Jeff Jones maybe?), and picked it up, and really enjoyed the book.

Somebody should go through ALL the great old science fiction books and stories from the 30s into the 60s. With the improvements in special effects we have now, you can do things no one ever dreamed you could do in movies back then.

Niven and Pournelle's "Mote in God's Eye" is something I'd like to see.

"The Nazi and The Barber" by Edgar Hilsenrath

Dustyn -> RE: Books made into movies I'd like to see if made (5/12/2006 7:06:39 AM)

Sword of Truth series - Terry Goodkind
Xanth series - Piers Anthony
Suffer the Children - John Saul
The Ashar series - Angus Wells
Too many books, too many morons in Hollywood... just a bad mix, regardless of how you look at it...

Moonheart by Charles deLint, tho Hollyweird would probably fuck it up big time. I hadn't been able to get into the Anita Blake series, tho I love Meredith Gentry!

any of the Robicheaux series by James Lee Burke

Oh God no - they'd just mess them up.  The Robicheaux series is sacred to me and the one movie out ("Heaven's Prisoners" - the second book in the series) just couldn't live up to the book.  This author (esp. this series) is hands down my all time favorite.  i'm anxiously waiting for "Jesus Out To Sea" and "The Tin Roof Blow Down" - #16 in the Robicheaux series due out in July).  Since i know the movies could never be nearly as great as the books, i just settle for Will Patton's wonderful readings on audiodisc.  The way he says "pecan"...ooohhh[;)].  Besides, to me JLB IS Dave Robicheaux.  Unless he actually played the role, no one else could ever measure up for me............slave luci

ok Level, stop reading my mail!  First, Robicheaux and now Harlan Ellison.  i love Ellison, esp. the collection of stories in "Gentleman Junkie."  i would be hard pressed to pick my favorites but i suppose "Someone Is Hungrier," "There's One On Every Campus," and "Daniel White For The Greater Good."  Yes, Ellison's short stories would make tremendous movies as long as the scripts stayed true to his words.  i must commend you on your taste in books....slave luci

I would love to see somebody like Tim Burton make the Elric of Melnibone books into movies.

Maximum Ride by James Patterson and it's two sequels as well as When the Wind Blows and it's sequel The Lake House.  Those are the stories of the genetically produced children that can fly.[:)]

TheHeretic -> RE: Books made into movies I'd like to see if made (4/13/2007 5:30:55 PM)

"When the Going Gets Weird."  The life of Hunter Thompson would make a great movie or HBO mini-series.

Banned by the Department of Homeland Security 2 years ago, since it's essentially a manual on running a revolution.

Great literature however, if the Firemen haven't yet cleaned out your local library, I suggest you run, don't walk...

Also, perhaps Pournelle's "The Prince"? Or would the idea of the military declaring an emperor too relevant these days?

The did Niven's "Inconstant Moon" as an "Outer Limits" episode...

Ringworld.

One I'd really like to see them 'try again' with is Stephen King's "The Running Man," also written under the Bachman name.  The means of the ending would have to change, I'm sure.

Lucylastic -> RE: Books made into movies I'd like to see if made (4/13/2007 6:45:31 PM)

Weaveworld by Clive barker, the effects would be staggering
The Necrosope Series by Brian Lumley
