ORIGINAL: tj444 focus, what one considers art or a masterpiece will vary from person to person. Some people think graffiti is art and they are entitled to their viewpoint (as are you and I). Picasso's are considered masterpieces also, but imo his works resemble graffiti more than traditional art such as Rembrandt. I am not a huge fan of either but if I had to choose, I would take a Picasso over Rembrandt. If someone wants, as an act of freedom of expression, to "deface" themselves with tats (which I personally dont like) or piercings, then that is their business. When I was a small child, my mother had my ears pierced, OMG, did my mother deface me?!!! I think pierced ears are considered by most people as pretty normal, like wearing make up, so I personally do not see the difference between my private piercings and my pierced ears. I dont plan on removing any of them but I also dont plan on getting any more either, not for aesthetic reasons but for practical reasons. Picasso; Rembrandt; whatever - doesn't matter what your idea of a masterpiece is but whether you think plastering graffiti all over it improves it or not. The "timeless masterpiece" I referred to is the female form. I'm old (of course) so I'm yet to be convinced that some shit-for-brains teenager plastering his tag all over a rickety paling fence improves that, either. OK, I understand when dumb animals piss everywhere to mark their territory, so that does at least give perspective to said teenager's brain capacity.... It's the old "too much of anything" ain't good. I still love that once uniquely feminine thing of piercing ear lobes. It has style; looks sexy and girly etc. But now they've got metal shit sticking out everywhere - and it's AWFUL. My profile says I'm attracted to women who are soft and girly (a threatened species in this age). While you may not see a difference between ear-rings and "private piercings", I've gotta say that *nothing* "soft and girly" comes to my mind as to how those with "private" piercings got them. lol Focus.
