greetings community,

so you are on your knees, being as pleasing as possible. and then you notice that you can no longer feel your feet. in fact, as you are dwelling on that though, you also realize that you actually can't feel anything below your knees.

what do you do? i stated this fact to my Master, and he eventually allowed me to "sit", of course then comes the pain of blood rushing back to parts that were *running low*. Master is not a sadist, so. i do not think this pain was intentional.

i guess i want to know if there are any exercises, or a particular way to kneel (within the confines of the position ordered)
this position is buttocks resting on heels, knees spread wide, back straight, hands on thighs. (i think this is a classic position, so maybe someone has perfected it) i am 31yo and in relatively good shape, but i am new to kneeling. so maybe this will be something that will simply get better overtime.

any advise or, even just knowing someone else has gone thru the same thing would be welcome.
thank you for listening...

GOOD question, and I can't wait to read some actual answers.

One of my punishments is to kneel in the corner, and I end up with alseep/numb/other things feet, which -aren't- part of the punishmen.

So...help?

Kneeling is a very light form of endurance bondage. the discomfort can be mitigated by placing a cushion under your knees, or it can be intensified by placing pebbles, chains, or other nasty uncomfortable things uner you, but so long as you are in an environment with gravity, there will be discomfort. This is why every civilization on earth considers kneeling in one form or another to be a sign of humility and submission.

oh! i got a wonderfully helpful email on this subject. i am going to post her hints so that we can all be better informed.

"first practice does make perfect and the technique We use to train nadu is start with a pillow under your ass, between your ankles and ass...gradually work up to a book, then nothing at all. Squats with some weight baring will help to build the thigh muscle, which will then hold Your weight so YOu are not resting it on Your ankles. Since this is what is causing the numbing sensation you are experiencing...You are not using your thighs to hold your erect, but are archign your back and sitting on your ankles, hence the blood supply loss..the key is to use your thighs to hold you erect...it is alo often beneficial to practice with a ball between your legs...squeeze the ball as you sit...this sensation is the sensation you should have without the ball..your thighs pressing toward and down."

thank you again slave sister.

cariad -> RE: kneeling (10/9/2004 10:54:05 PM)

this slave has been kneeling on and off for awhile now but she also experiences the numbness and pain when she is permitted to sit. this slave thanks T/those who posted the suggestions made as she hates it when her feet go numb and her legs, she's 36 and is not really in that great a shape but does try to please Master by kneeling when with Him r/l and when she's at a Dom's home she does her best to kneel being allowed a respite to stand or sit and get the feeling back but that still hurts real bad.

this slave will remember the pillow, and book idea in hopes it helps aleviate some of the numbness if not makes it go away completely.

thank Y/you again for the help :D

Well Hey,
I've never had any numbness from kneeling. What I do have numbness from is sitting indian style. When my ankles are on the floor.
Never had an issue until I was in the military sitting in the dayroom for hours. Ever since..I no longer sit indian style for more than 5 minutes and my feet are numb.

Anyone got any ideas to stop that?

Wish I could help you on the numbness from kneeling sensation but alas that is one issue I don't have yet.

I can't kneel for more than 5 min. at a time. I had knee surgery about 5 yrs. ago and now have bone on bone arthritis. [:(]

this slave has had the orthopscopy and is now awaiting Nov. 30th for an mri on her legs due to lumps the doc figures is tissue, cartalidge and muscle damage from too many falls (is a clumsy slave in winter, let alone at work.....lol) this slave may have to have surgery on her legs meaning she is going to be off her knees and feet for 6-8 weeks at a time unless both are done at once (pray they are) then there's always the physio afterwards (ick hate physio).....the numbness from Indian style is something this slave is also used to and it helps if one trains their ankles by wearing ankle weights while walking for 5 minutes to start out then working up to a half hour. the other thing is to work with a pillow under the ankles, then something a bit harder perhaps a book then nothing and see how that works.....just this slave's suggestion :D

Is that what it is? Weak Ankles? My ankles do crack all of the time. Even broke one in the military from all the marching.
Never really considered weights. Perhaps I'll try it. I work out my legs so much at the gym but come to think of it...nothing ankle wise. The closest I guess would be for my calves.
I'll give it a try and if it fixes me I'll let you know.

IservBlkKingPaPa -> RE: kneeling (10/16/2004 1:25:16 PM)

this girl cannot kneel.....she has Lupus induced RA in her joints, with damaged cartidge in the knees. Since Master knows this, if at ever it is required of her to kneel, He tries to cushion her knees as best He can and it is only for a short period of time. this girl had a inadequacy complex when this was first discovered. she thought "geez what kind of slave is she if she cannot kneel" but since she has gotten over that with the help of her Master. It is not realistic to think she is not human and for one reason or another may not be able to carry out specific tasks. [:)] Maybe those knee pads carpet guys wear would help. Not the most attractive thingys though lol

What a great thread. Personally, I played far too much netball when younger (yeh Im so old at 26 .. lol) and now have arthritis in my left knee, so even just sitting with knees bent for a long period (ie in the cinema) reduces it to a constant throbbing.

In my past gorean relationship, my Master was kindly thoughtful of this and would allow me to sit on an otterman by his side or just sit on my bum on a cushion.

But personally, being a larger woman, I never found kneeling very comfortable. Putting a cushion/blanket down does help and yes, a cushion between your bum and ankles seems to not put as much pressure on your knees.

Blessed be :)

typesgirl -> RE: kneeling (11/13/2004 1:22:44 PM)

What a great question and i'm sure a predicament we've all been in. How embarrassing to stand up after serving Master just to fall like a lump in the floor because one's legs are numb. LOL

My solution to this problem is to 1) place a pillow under my knees which prevents some constriction and 2) to not allow my ass to rest on my heels. It does take practice to remain bent like that but i find that if i practice (exercise) enough in this position (i began by doing while i watched television or read). At first the front of my thighs were only strong enough to do this for a few minutes at a time but i can now do it for 30 minutes or so.

Of course this method only works if your knees have not been injured (sounds so painful girls)

Hope this helps

This works!!! Thank you!!

For the first time I remembered to grab a pillow (after getting permission, of course) before I crawled under the desk to pleasure my master while he was working at the computer...and for the first time I didn't have to alter what I was doing in order to adjust my position because of my achy legs. It worked so well that my master took a break to allow me to come out from under the table to, um, complete my task... simply yummy.

These message boards are awesome.

Thanks for all the infomation in here....i thought i was the only one who couldnt kneel, I have arthritis too, and i agree it not very uummm graceful to lurch forward on your face when you try and get up......

nella -> RE: kneeling (1/11/2005 5:31:14 AM)

Kneel for short periods of time during the day, the period you can kneel whitout any discomfort should grow.

azalea -> RE: kneeling (1/11/2005 4:49:38 PM)

I have always had bad knees- between playing soccer for many years and being a heavier girl,- I've taken to kneeling on a pillow which helps a bit, but I usually end up sitting my bum on the pillow. I'll have to try the pillow between bum and ankles trick though.

ARoseAndAnEye -> RE: kneeling (1/12/2005 9:55:31 AM)

Ahhhh.. remembering the kneelers in church as a child....

I sem to have more problems with my back during kneeling than with my feet or legs. If allowed any movement at all, shifting the brunt of one's weight from knee to knee might help.

I can tell you that there is true torment in kneeling on grains of rice.

Midear J.-

In martial arts, or in sitting Zazen, we sit in seiza- basically, kneeling. If one has been raise in a culture where this is a common posture, it is easier than it is for most of the respondants here. even for me, after years of Zazen, and martial arts training cannot sitt this way for more that 1/2 hour or so with out needing to shift about.

So, from the Zen Mountain Monestery store- zabuton:

Zafu

and my preferance ( have a similar one that I often use for work)

ankle bench

Stay warm,
Lawrence

That's a great little travel bench. Carolina Morning makes a pretty neat one out of recycled plastic.
