Background: The most transparent administration EVARRR!!!

(Blah blah blah)

The video that started it all:

"We paid our dues..where's our 'change"?

The fallout:

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0411/53960.html

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/bronstein/detail?entry_id=87978&tsp=1

Whether you think this is something or nothing its another amateurish misstep that should have been handled better, and its troubling to think that this is the same crew which is in charge of dealing with our allies and with our enemies

So, the administration is ignoring asswipes, what's the big deal?

Thank god it is this professional administration dealing with our allies and enemies rather than some juvenile neo-con bring it on president.

Im confused... lol... of course. So, what I have read is that this woman spent alot of money for herself and her group to go to a breakfast with Obama, sung him a song, which he politely stated how good their voices were, the woman then stated she was leaving, and did so.

Afterwards, the woman's group posted the video.

So far, I have no issues. All seems well. Im going to assume you are speaking about the Chronicles posting of their own video?

You are missing a few of the pieces taz.

The most transparent administration ever forbade a certain group of journalists (who were given access to this event) from using anything beyond Flintsone technology to report on this event.

Theres the first problem...

Then a group who paid $76,000.00 to get in sang a little protest ditty, and a reporter from said pool whipped out a cell phone and recorded the protest song.

Thats where it starts to get interesting, but I dont want to play the part of spoiler so I encourage you to read the links I provided (or to Google up your own links) and learn about a news story that wont be covered on CNN or in Newsweek or at the New York Times and day soon.

I have read them, Sanity. My point in asking is... since they agreed, I dont understand the commotion. The WH can limit, or even exclude, journalists from such events. This taping put them at a disadvantage since the rest of the media poll abided by the requests of the WH.

Hell, I would ban them.

I dont have time to explain the whole situation to you taz but the first problem (as I wrote in the OP) was, why demand reporters abandon technology in the first place?

Things only devolve from there.

I think your issue is with "transparency"... I get that...

I would say that there is a difference between kicking reporters out of the white house press corps, refusing to answer certain reporter's questions, etc etc etc, and not allowing something to be filmed. If you could make the argument that CNN was allowed to film this event, but no one else, I would say you were right about "access".

BTW, access and transparency are not the same thing. I could decry the fact I have no access, but who the hell am I, and why do I deserve it? Just because I do not have access does not mean that Obama isn't transparent with those he gives access to.

Obama is a politician. His job right now is to run for another term (in addition to being president). All elected officials attempt to control negative press, more and more so as election day approaches. If you are upset about that, it seems a bit silly to me. This isn't a gotcha moment. It is a bunch of silly people singing a stupid song, big fucking deal. Now if Obama was going to do something like invade a country under false pretenses, and froze out any reporter that asked him questions about that, well then I could see your point, but he hasn't behaved like Bush in this regard.

Thank you for putting it better than I did, julia.

Sanity, julia made my point so much better than I did. And I agree with her that if MSNBC had access to thise footage, and no one else did, then there IS a problem... and many here would be complaining that Fox didnt get the same level of transparency.

What DID happen was a reporter broke the rules the rest followed. They dont have to like the rules, but they DID agree to them. Dont like the rules, then dont go. But they put the administration in a bad spot... and any administration in the future.

Oh for fuck sake, Ron, get a grip. You sound like one of those paid political posters who vanish on election day, and don't show up again until the next campaign officially starts.

From the opening shot of trying (and failing miserably) to marginalize a news network they don't like, to Biden's staff locking the pool reporter in a storage closet a few weeks ago, to this bit with the ham-handed threats that are lied about when exposed, the Obama administration's relationship with the press is a subject of interest. It's also fair game for the laugh or scream mirth of those who understood just how empty all that rhetoric was.

Here's the Chronicle's editorial.

W was up front about it, having reporters arrested and refusing papers and it was all over. I didnt see you fucking whining then.  You get the grip, the fucking thing is neo-con asswipe spin from the get go.

It is a non-issue. Except for whiners who are trying to make political hay where no grass is growing.

No, you only need cast your attention as far as Wisconsin to disabuse yourself of that absurd notion.

Are you talking about people who post on this site? Are you alleging that this site is so politically important that someone could get paid to post here? Seriously, I would love that job, so if anyone knows where I can sign up to post on BDSM websites about politics, I wanna sign up for that action!

I appreciate that the hopium is wearing off, Ron, and that many on the left of things are now casually conceding that President Obama isn't special or different. Where we need to go from here is getting them to see that not only is he no different, he's not very good at it, either.

No worse than anyone else, and I never thought he was any big thing at all ever.

But he certainly was head and shoulders above anything else running around, and remains so.

Gotta go with what's on the cart.

It ain't like many on the right still aren't aware that their candidates and Prezes were abject failures and wholly inept and disasterous. Lotsa people made, and are continuing to aggravate the mess we are in instead of discussing useful and meaningful things or doing useful and meaningful things about it.

I hope you dont mind my quoting you on this the next time you point out the fact that Bush was no fiscal conservative, mnot.
