I appreciate that the hopium is wearing off, Ron, and that many on the left of things are now casually conceding that President Obama isn't special or different. Where we need to go from here is getting them to see that not only is he no different, he's not very good at it, either.

I never thought much about Obama at all. I have never advocated supporting him, or not. He just is a step above Bush, which doesn't mean much, because Bush was the worst president in American history.

I said it when Obama took office, and I will say it again.... McCaine's health was always precarious at best, and since he selected Palin as his running mate (a decision he regrets) his judgment is suspect. Obama is intelligent, at the very least. I may not vote for Obama again because he has only escalated our foreign entanglements, which we cannot afford. We need deep budget cuts into defense, which he is unwilling to do.

Obama, like Clinton, Reagan, and the Bushes, have continually sold the American people down the river to the Military Industrial Defense interests that really run this country. Even if you get Obama out, some other gun happy jackass will take his place.

My interest remain what they always have, I am consistent if nothing else, and people like me are often attacked by both sides (think Nader, who has stayed consistent, and is hated for it)

^   Agreed.

mnottertail -> RE: Singing Protesters... Gate. (4/30/2011 9:20:57 AM)

You can point it out, but it doesn't mean much.   Bushes ineptitude and bankrupting ways and previous republicans............

http://www.skymachines.com/US-National-Debt-Per-Capita-Percent-of-GDP-and-by-Presidental-Term.htm

I remember you defending the debt and all the causes to the hilt, when it was what you saw as good political spin ideologically for your boys, to spend our blood and treasure abroad.  You never saw me doing that.

But nobody is giving us away with both hands like
St. Wrinklemeat and the AsianLiplockMaster Bush did. Not even the bankrupter W.

You are missing a few of the pieces taz.

The most transparent administration ever forbade a certain group of journalists (who were given access to this event) from using anything beyond Flintsone technology to report on this event.

Theres the first problem...

Then a group who paid $76,000.00 to get in sang a little protest ditty, and a reporter from said pool whipped out a cell phone and recorded the protest song.

Thats where it starts to get interesting, but I dont want to play the part of spoiler so I encourage you to read the links I provided (or to Google up your own links) and learn about a news story that wont be covered on CNN or in Newsweek or at the New York Times and day soon.

Because it isn't a story.

The reporter is out of the White House press pool for violating established rules.

I thought right wingers were big on obeying the rules?

And whats the rule, Ken?

The rule was no cameras which is a huge step up from your hero's fund raisers where the press simply wasn't allowed at all.

TheHeretic -> RE: Singing Protesters... Gate. (4/30/2011 9:24:54 AM)

You ought to be able to Google up the Biden fundraiser pretty easily, Julia, or even hit the search feature here. It was a piffle by itself, but when you add the ham-handedness on this one, it starts looking like an institutional competence problem in the press office.

Collarme is ranked 5000-something in the popularity of internet sites, last time I looked. I have no idea where these forums fall in the popularity of free-access venues for online political discussion. I hear you can find ads on Craigslist, but you need to be in the bag for the cause, and prepared to leave your independent thoughts out of it. I have way too much fun running outlaw, so I'm not going to be much help in where you might apply.

mnottertail -> RE: Singing Protesters... Gate. (4/30/2011 9:25:00 AM)

or where he just arrested them.

Its true, julia. What didnt come out at first is that the "closet" was big enough to house a desk and a chair and allow the reporter room to move around. They have you believing Biden had the man locked up, then the man was "forceably" locked up...

http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=utf-8&fr=slv8-iobit&p=reporter%20locked%20in%20closet&type=

He was told he could only come out when the politicians were ready to give their speeches.

Powers told The Drudge Report: ‘When I'd stick my head out, they'd say, “Not yet. We'll let you know when you can come out.”

Yeah, he was really "locked up" if he could poke his head out the door to ask a question. Then there were questions about the reporter having been kidnapped.

juliaoceania -> RE: Singing Protesters... Gate. (4/30/2011 11:03:47 AM)

When right wingers misstate the facts so blatantly, it is hard to give them credence even when there is something to make hay about...

Little boy who cried wolf would be the appropriate lesson to learn from such things... exaggeration mostly falls flat.

DomKen -> RE: Singing Protesters... Gate. (4/30/2011 11:48:30 AM)

So a reporter lost a privilege for breaking the rules, let's not forget how things were just a few short years ago.

I dont have time to explain the whole situation to you taz but the first problem (as I wrote in the OP) was, why demand reporters abandon technology in the first place?

Things only devolve from there.

You don't have time to explain but you had time to create the thread?

Sounds more like lack of any available explanation rather than lack of time.

Heres a pretty good AP article on the issue:

Dan Gillmor, a media critic and head of the Knight Center for Digital Media Entrepreneurship at Arizona State University, said the White House needs to update the rules for its pool reports to match the realities of 21stcentury reporting.

But he also said newspapers should do more to embrace the new reality that amateurs are capable of providing their own records of events, showing a wider range of perspectives. For example, he said the Chronicle could focus more on providing a platform for amateur video, which would expand the definition of the press pool to anyone with a video camera.

"Neither the White House nor the journalism organization in this case are showing much imagination about what's possible in a world with democratized media creation and access," Gillmor said.

Your source... and I happen to agree with this.

Brain -> RE: Singing Protesters... Gate. (4/30/2011 7:34:22 PM)

As usual you are inconsistent because when Bush was doing this stuff you ignored it and now when Obama people do something similar (no one was arrested) you make a big deal out of it. I think people would view you more favorably if you were more consistent with less hypocrisy.

It's on MSNBC's web site, newspaper sites all over the country, and same with TV station sites all over the country.  Real real suppressed there.

What is it about "print only media" that is so difficult to sink in here?

The article containing the quote above is nothing but hyper-spin.

Read the stipulation 'print only media' that is nothing new and has been a part of media rules ever since still or moving picture cameras entered the process. There are different levels of media access, some in terms of who is allowed, some in terms of recording media allowed. That has always been in place, it is 'standard procedure' as per event.

Let's look at this gem:

"Dan Gillmor, a media critic and head of the Knight Center for Digital Media Entrepreneurship at Arizona State University, said the White House needs to update the rules for its pool reports to match the realities of 21stcentury reporting."

I must ask here; is there something about digital media experts whereby a Faustian deal has to be struck between simple logic and comprehension of one's own language vs. understanding of a particular technology?

"Print media only."

Send Dan Gillmor to whatever island and yoga practice and tantric toast making lessons he needs as enlightenment to normal English language understanding to let that one sink in.

This notion of 'Jetsons' vs. 'stone age' technology misdirection and distraction are quite amusing too, being as that this claims cell phone cameras to be an advancement of the professional Cannon, Panasonic, etc. $5,000-$20,000 pro video cameras.

Please, please, my guts are hurting too much already.

"print media only."

Can one stab into the paper deep enough with their cell cam to qualify here?

Ingenuity,  people. Something that has ink in it, or graphite extending from a stick of wood; "print only media."

OK, party's over, folks.

When cameras are allowed then only the real thing is used by those who actually understand the difference between "print allowed" and "cameras allowed."   Pro cameras, not cell phone 'cams.'

And yes, I used a cell cam to record the stupid idiotic look on your face the whole time in this arduous process.
