We're having an election on Monday and it looks like the NDP party is in second place and for the first time a socialist party will be the opposition to the government.

People don't trust Stephen Harper and they don't trust the Liberal Party’s Michael Ignatieff either; he was a professor at Harvard University and the Conservatives having money from the oil companies and banks used several attack ads on television before the election and during the election.

So Ignatieff’s not popular now and the Liberal party is in third place. The conservatives are running an ad on TV where Ignatieff said, “It’s your America just as much as it is mine. And you have to decide what kind of America you want.” Needless to say Canadians don't appreciate him working in the United States and pretending he's an American.

In addition, Ignatieff has not explained well on the news why he and the other parties brought down the government. He tells people it's because of Harper's contempt for democracy but he doesn't explain how they are being secret hiding information the opposition needs to do its job asking question in the House of Commons. The conservatives are not telling the truth about health care, the budget, treatment of detainees/prisoners in Afghanistan, the cost of military planes and building new prisons. The opposition thinks the conservatives are not telling the truth about these things.

- The Conservatives are leading in the polls by 38%.
- The New Democratic Party or NDP is second with 29.6%
- The Liberals are third with 23.3%

Stephen Harper thinks he's above the law. He refused to fire Bev Oda for forging documents and misleading Parliament. He shrugged off charges against his inner circle, who are accused of breaking Canada's election laws and face jail time. He shut down Parliament twice to silence his critics, and decreed that "Government of Canada" should be renamed the "Harper Government."

I think it would be so cool if Layton won it but I have serious doubts he will win. I really dont want Harper to win. Harper ought to lose. Harper ought to lose this election. If anyone loses it would be good if Harper loses.

It is time for a change in Canada, time to give the little guy a chance. I live in the province of Quebec and for the first time in 20 years the NDP is way ahead of the Bloc, NDP all the way.

For real??? Wow. Although, frankly, I have wondered why the Bloc Québecois lasted as long as they did. Mind you, Gilles Duceppe is quite the charismatic one and definitely a better speaker than Harper. At least in my opinion. ;)

Aren't you a little afraid of Jack Layton becoming the next PM? Although...when you consider the alternatives...

If he is elected, I hope he makes some good changes.

A new poll released by CROP, published in La Presse Thursday, shows that the NDP is the choice for 36 per cent of survey respondents, compared to 31 per cent for the Bloc. The Tories and Liberals trail at 17- and 13 per cent support respectively

Thanks for the link. Not that I was doubting, just that I was surprised because of the Bloc's strong holding. I suppose it doesn't hurt that Layton is home grown. ;)

I guess it has alot to do with the Blocs main concern (seperation) people here are getting tired of that. Maybe after today the Bloc wont exist anymore, if they lose too many seats.

yes I agree Jack being homegrown does not hurt, but I also see Him as a people person so much more than the other two, We been going around in circles for so many years with the Liberals and Torries its time for new blood new ideas in Ottawa.

OMG! Chretien was in there for far too long. I'm just...thoroughly disgusted with the way politics have gone in the last couple of decades. Diefenbaker must be rolling over in his grave.

I would have thought by now that separatists would realize they would be worse off as a separate nation than as part of Canada. As a new nation they would start off in the hole, as I understand they are financially indebted to Canada. Then you have the native groups to deal with. Isn't the main hydro source for the province on native owned land? And then, aside from St. Pierre et Miquelon, their neighbours would be English speaking nations...well...except for the USA which is also Spanish it seems. (Don't get me started.)

I agree with you on the new blood thing. I just hope that Layton doesn't turn into the useless turd that so many past prime ministers have been. If I ever had any respect for Mulroney, (and I didn't) that died after I read the stuff about him in one of Knowlton Nash's book. What a snivelling, self-centered egotist.

Okay, I've done my rant for the night. ;)

A tad weird, the Mayoral elections the day of 911 and Osama declared dead during the elections here. A tad weird. The polls close in less than half an hour.

Wow, the Bloc is gone.

And a Greenie got a seat.

And (happy dance) looks like a majority govt for Harper.

Canada is very much USA-like; elections do not make any difference. The plutocracy system has perfected itself.
