When I heard,I stared cheering and yelling for a while, then I cried a bit.Hadn`t cried since it happened, almost ten years ago.My friends started calling me,some that called had lost loved ones that day. They were cheering and screaming and crying and a little relieved.

There was an impromptu celebration at ground zero that lasted till dawn.I saw some shots of ball games taking a moment to cheer the news.Driving back from Vermont,I heard some DJs talking about the beers they were drinking.

How did you feel when you heard?

What did you do ,if anything?

I was watching the Mets/Phillies game....immediately went into the living room to watch CNN on the big tv and whooped it up a bit, then went outside my neighbors. Staying in Jacksonville, Fl. I am surrounded by Navy folks and their families, when they found it was the Seals you would have thought it was New Years Eve for all the carrying on!....I went to bed with a smile on my face and proud of all those young people that do the things they do for US!

What did I do, I remembered the day the towers were dropped. I remembered the people begging news reporters and cameras for information on their loved ones. I remembered giving blood and anything else I could spare for those who were so directly impacted. Then I had a drink and tried to get some sleep because life has to move on. This is one more animal put down. It took us long enough I just wish it really did mean it is over.

Sadly, I had spent Sunday afternoon watching Lifetime movies (I know, just shoot me) and the evening watching some stuff I had recorded, so I didn't hear the news reports. I found out next morning, over in that thread someone started in Off-topic, my jaw dropped open, and I went Googling. I think I'm still in a state of disbelief with no strong emotional reaction, though I'm proud as hell of the SEAL's that did it. I'm feeling some apprehension about the possible retaliations, and I also don't feel like it's "over", because I'm sure the man trained his successors well.

These SEALs remind me of our cops and fire-fighters.Heros,men and women who go to the places none of us want to go and do the things none of us want to do, in order to protect us.

I wasn't online or watching TV Sunday so I didn't find out until Monday morning. I saw "Bin Laden..........DEAD" in the scroll and thought it was a hoax, but kept seeing it in the scroll so I clicked and saw the thread was started by Hillwilliam and not one of our conspiracy theory types. I read some of the posts then went to the New York Times and was happy that they've not yet implemented or had suspended their new 20 free articles per month policy. They had some really good articles, which I posted in the "Bin Laden..........DEAD" thread.

I flashed back to 9/11 and to my time in the military, which was during Desert Storm. I cried. I texted everyone. I turned on the TV, which happened to be on NBC, and caught Rumsfield giving the Bush administration credit (with the current administration as an afterthought) O_o

I was perusing CM and saw it pop up in another window and started that thread (thank you kali for the compliment). In all fairness, I think the "breaking news" thread beat mine by a few seconds. I was happy and proud of our guys esp when I heard it was SEALs. I have a few old friends and sparring partners (when they hit or take your ass down, it fukin' HURTS) that wore that title proudly.

I felt spooked because we are nothing but a war on terror and now everything EVERYTHING will be toward that end.

The Police state will now go hyper mode.

I am also put off by the gloating of it all.   We have become what we hate.

I also think people need an excuse to feel good- that low gas prices would have been even better news... and since he was killed last week- they said-- nice that they did not bump the royal wedding.    hmmm.

I shrugged and went to work.

We're celebrating the death of one man. One man, when there are still thousands waiting in line to bomb our subway stations, hospitals, and government buildings. Thousands waiting for an opportunity to spread their message of hate, and intolerance, of fear, violence and insanity.

One man died. Unfortunately, it will not end there. Humans are so goddamn stupid....

I tuned in before the president's spoke. When the media was saying they were trying to get more info, but nobody was answering. I was proud of Obama for his secrecy because I knew that secrecy was the very reason Obama succeeded in catching Bin Laden. I also remembered Bush's lack of secrecy when he was president and thinking he was trying as hard as he could not to catch Bin Laden.

I was watching network TV (the one night per week that I do) Sunday evening. ABC broke in with a special report. I got that gut-wrenching feeling of dread and then George Stephanopolis (sp?) announced OBL was dead. I stayed on the channel and fell asleep in front of it. I'm glad he's dead. It was just.

When I woke up to go to bed, people were chanting "USA, USA". I was disappointed in that and don't consider it any different than people cheering the destruction of the Twin Towers.

I was tuned in when the networks started breaking the news. I sent out a text to family and friends, stuck my head out the door to tell a neighbor, watched the President's statement, drank a couple shots of whiskey to toast bin Laden on his way to hell, and got to bed on time.
