Futuresocks -> TENS Unit play? (5/3/2011 9:43:28 PM)

I'm 4 months out from foot surgery and the road has been long and, well, unsuccessful, it appears.

Limping along, my insurance paid for a TENS unit to aid in recovery and pain, one of those shocking devices. Does ok for the foot, but I admittedly was planning to try it out BDSM-wise the very moment I was getting it. :d I played with a friend's last year and it was quite an experience. But I have no domme at present and am limited as to how it can be applied.

What have your experiences been like with such units? Any pointers for intense use?

My acupuncturist uses a TENS and I have to resist the impulse to say, higher, higher.

A playmate of mine would turn it up until I hit the high notes like an opera singer.

I can't inflict pain on my self so don't know how to advise you for self-administering, other than experiment and find what feels good to you. If your neighbors call the police, you've put it up too high ;)

Have you tried yoga and/or meditation?

For pain - meditation could be more effective than many drug-based pain relievers for certain kinds of pain management.

Kabat-Zinn has made significant contributions to modern health care with his research which focused on mind/body interactions for healing, and on various clinical applications of mindfulness meditation training for people with chronic pain and/or stress-related disorders. Kabat-Zinn began teaching the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) at the Stress Reduction Clinic in 1979. MBSR is an eight week course which combines meditation and Hatha yoga to help patients cope with stress, pain, and illness by using moment-to-moment awareness. Such mindfulness helps participants use their inner resources to achieve good health and well being. Kabat-Zinn and colleagues have studied the effects of practising moment-to-moment awareness on the brain, and how it processes emotions, particularly under stress, and on the immune system.

Sadly, most insertable toys are pretty expensive, and so are most penile electrodes.  One thing that works well is to stick a pad on the shaft of your penis and then roll a (preferably snug fitting ) condom over it to help keep it on. During tens usage, the pads will tend to get wet from the inevitable precum, and they tend to fall off, killing the moment.  With the condom, they may slide around, but the condom will keep the pad in constant contact with the skin. You can use 2 pads on the cock, and the current will take the "shortest path" through your body between them.  This makes for a more localized, intense sensation, good if you're into pain.  Put one pad near the tip of the penis and stick the other to your taint or anus, and the current will travel through the whole shaft.  When you move your cock around you will find that the "shortest path" also moves depending on position.  Pulling your penis towards your belly will send the current through a different part of of your genitals than pushing it down will.  As an added bonus, precum is pretty conductive, and when your stream reaches the electrode the current can travel through your urethra, which is pretty intense.

You'll degrade your pads pretty quick like this, but you can get cheap replacments off amazon.com.  I find that the stimulation from an anal electrode is generally more consistent than a pad stuck to my crack, and also will direct current closer to the prostate.  I haven't broke down and bought a nice one yet, but this website has some cheap ones:  http://www.tens.co.uk/acatalog/Electrodes_and_Leads.html  The anal one is very small, but decent quality.  Shipping takes a while to the US.  I'd say for people who are into anal already, go for a bigger plug.

I find the 70hz range to be the most pleasant frequency.  It feels like a vibrator, or a nice humming.  Try all the settings at least once.  Turn it up all the way and scream, and realize that if someone else had the controls they could do that to you at their leisure.  Turn it up and quickly toss the control away, so you have to scramble for the dial while in mindrending pain.

Don't expect to have an orgasm from just electric play alone, although it certainly is possible.  I've seen people recommend at least 3 days with no orgasm beforehand to make it easier.  Vibrators work pretty well when combined with TENS.  Either way, if you do manage to cum with the tens running, it'll be VERY intense.

Future-
Electro on females (that would be myself) and males is my specialty. Smartstim.com is your best bet for learning everything you need to know about electro and getting the most out of a simple TENS unit. You may find you outgrow your TENS at some point and want to go to a programmable box like the ET312b. Smartstim has great ideas for inexpensive, simple electrodes you can make yourself (conductive rubber, lead-free solder, metal napkin rings, door pulls, towel hooks, cigar tubes even a sponge soaked in saltwater!) as well as reviews of commercial trodes, stim-boxes, stim-file programs ('stimphonies') composed by members (look for 'Heaven & Hell' in the wav/mp3 section, that's mine.) Any specific questions you can't find answered in smartstim, you're welcome to write me on the other side and I'll try to help.

Do I need to say it? No stimming above the waist? Don't want to stop your heart, 'k? Other than that, ride the lightening! And good luck with the recovery of your foot. Keep stimming it. I used custom-programmed electro after a heinous surgery and recovered in a 1/4 of the usual time.

I am a tens play fan. and started with a simple 2 channel, battery operated one. Since , in my opinion pads are useless due to their life span, alligator clips and metal cock rings worked the best. I made my own, got the wire, alligator clips and connectors from radio shack and the copper to make the rings with from a hardware store.

And to add some fun , i bought a few cheap hobby kits from Carl's electronics and used them to make and break the battery power, and or the leads to the rings and clips. You can even buy the kits assembled.

If you are electrically inclined, and can do simple soldering. here are a few links to what i toyed with when i first started tens play. i wouldnt use the electronic kits with becnh type tens units that are 110 volt powered. I am not sure how thos react to power on off spikes.

My physical therapist has a lovely (and very pricey) unit. I'm not sure what's it called, just know I want to steal it !!

For those to do love TENS unit play. I cheaper alternative to the BDSM stores is Amazon.com. Look it up. You can search for TENS or ESTIM, their prices are 30% to 40% cheaper than most of the BDSM stores for the same exact unit. Doesn't hurt to look.

More than just the unit, what make the real difference is the accessories. Current Pleasuresis a brand new discount site for e-stim. They have a low price guarantee, including Amazon. They've also got exclusive designs not available anywhere else in the world for unique shapes and sizes of electrode pads. They have some for safe above the waist play as well that don't go across the heart because they are bipolar localized. They have great customer service too and are easy to reach to get questions answered. Plus they are in the US and have same-day shipping so you won't be waiting forever. Check them out.
