Hello, Everyone! This is my first post to collarme.com, but I couldn't resist the draw of a conversation about bad music. Here are my current bottom three worst songs, in no particular order, with explanations for why I change the station whenever I hear them. :-)
  • Hollaback Girl, Gwen Stefani - With the cheerleader cadence, it came off like an attempt at riding the coat tails of Destiny's Child's Lose my Breath, which used similar high school band cadences and achieved a high level of success immediately before Stefani's song became popular.
  • Milkshake, Kelis - How did this become a hit?
  • Ridin' Dirty, Underground Kingz - The artists brag about crimes committed, then accuse the police of racial profiling for trying to catch them at it.

Great meeting you all. :-)

pup75

That shit is bananas.  B-A-N-A-N-A-S!  I thought I was going to have to commit a hate crime after Gwen came out with that.  <shudder>  We can add the "I'm In Love With A Stripper" bs to that, too.

How does this crap get on the air?

Welcome to the boards, pup75.  I'm not usually this negative, but bad pop makes me have seizures.

Go back to the 70's....

"Billy, Don't Be A Hero" by Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods

"Daddy, Don't You Walk So Fast" by Wayne Newton

"Watching Scotty Grow" by Bobby Goldsboro

"Honey" (See the tree, how big it's grown....) possibly also by Bobby Goldsboro, but I'm not positive on that one

And that one by Clint Holmes that goes "My name is Michael, I've got a nickel, I've got a nickel shiny and new...."

"Sweet and Innocent" by Donny Osmond

Embarrassingly, I had every one of those on a 45.  My musical taste has changed considerably since then.

LOL Windchymes, you've hit the jackpot of bad music. I had quite a few stinkers too back then.... but some, like mold, have managed to grow on me. "Mandy" by Barry Manilow is one of them... I hope they don't kick me out of the Black Sabbath fan club for admitting that.... "The Night Chicago Died".... "Please Come To Boston".....  wow. *laughs*

rivenmoon -> RE: The First Official CollarMe(tm) Really Bad Music Thread (5/12/2006 6:06:36 PM)

don't know if it counts as music but the following are annoying sounds

the taunting song the kids sing to each other.........nahnah nah nahnah
and "I know something you don't know"[:-]

any jingle that is accompanied by 'golden arches' and a red-headed clown.

the noise of the police siren behind you.

the drip of a leaky tap late at night

the supercilious monotone of any bureaucratic official.

OhBeMyMind -> RE: The First Official CollarMe(tm) Really Bad Music Thread (5/12/2006 7:14:15 PM)

I am not a huge fan of country music, some of it is okay though.....except for the one song....There's a tear in my beer cuz I'm missing you dear........my ears almost bleed when I hear that song!

MyCaptainsPet -> RE: The First Official CollarMe(tm) Really Bad Music Thread (5/12/2006 7:33:11 PM)

Worst song...Ella Guru by Captain Beefheart & The Magical Band, off the Trout Mask Replica album....it is awfull...I love it [:D]

here she come, smelling like a zoo/Hi Ella, Hi Ella Guru.

The entire album is an experience and a half....but then again I am weird

Wow.  What a choice.....  Haven't listened to that in quite a while.  I Still have my original copy on vinyl.  I used to play in a blues band that covered (sort of) a Bat Chain Puller/Safe as Milk medley....  it was odd.

Gauge -> RE: The First Official CollarMe(tm) Really Bad Music Thread (5/12/2006 9:32:54 PM)

I thought of more.

Any song by George Thorogood

Any rock/rap combination... they are terrible.

Most everything from Guns-n-Roses. That guys voice sounds like a rusty cheese grater

Any VanHalen song with Sammy Hagar

Lynard Skynard - Give Me Three Steps. God do I hate that song.

Anything ever uttered by Yoko Ono, including interviews. That woman should have her mouth rivetted shut and backfilled with cement for good measure.

That will be all for now.... until I think of more.

Yup have to agree on that one.

Bjork - "Its oh so quiet"       (hardly)

Now we're talkin.  See, I don't think you can really count Led Zeppelin, etc. as really bad music -- even if you don't happen to care for it.  Really bad music is music that's so bad, it's not really debatable.  NOBODY likes it.  Zeppelin's got too many fans.  Same for Celine Dion, Lynryd Skynrd, even Bjork.

But Yoko -- now that's some REALLY bad music. Nobody likes that stuff.

Watch some Yoko fan come stumbling into the thread now...

MizChaos -> RE: The First Official CollarMe(tm) Really Bad Music Thread (9/15/2006 2:30:15 PM)

Anything by limpbizkit or however they spell it.
Any of those crappy, patriotic-for-attention country songs that have come out, including that old one that they play every damned fourth of july.
Toxic by britney spears.
Anything by the BeeGees.
I second the vote against Celine Dion, the doors, and Led Zeppelin, and would like to add all the hippie jam bands like phish, The Grateful Dead, and king crimson.
I would also like to point out most of the poser-punk emo bands that have begin proliferating out there. They need to be marked for elimination.

CreoleCook -> RE: The First Official CollarMe(tm) Really Bad Music Thread (9/15/2006 2:48:13 PM)

dayum, people... guess I should just keep my mouth shut, since I still like a lot of the songs posted here...

To correct whoever it was on the first page of this... Eric clapton's song is spelled "Layla."

Though I have agree with anything by Celine "woman who needs to be force-fed cake" Dion, and Anything by the BeeGees.  Got to throw in an absolutely hated song of mine, "Hotel California," by the Eagles... if I have to hear that song one more ****in time....

LaTigresse -> RE: The First Official CollarMe(tm) Really Bad Music Thread (9/15/2006 3:03:36 PM)

ANYthing by Brittany Spears and every other bubblegum pop prince and princess. I must say that Christina Aguilera has somewhat redeemed herself.

ALL new country music.......it's just bubblegum pop with a twang.

Almost all rap and, sorry, but lots of angry heavy metal........just makes my head hurt.

ALL DISCO![:'(]

The Beach Boys.

Alot of the big hair band crap......

All singers/bands that all of their songs sound alike....Example: Meatloaf

****** I am sure I will think of more later**********

Level -> RE: The First Official CollarMe(tm) Really Bad Music Thread (9/15/2006 3:47:21 PM)

Ace of Base

Yes, that is by Bobby Goldsboro and is My all-time most-detested song.  I hated it the first time I heard it as a child and hate it even more now.  I was grocery shopping recently and that song came on.  I was tempted to just abandon My shopping cart and flee from the store, but was unfortunately about 80% done and really didn't want to start over at another store.

I also agree with previous posters about Abracadabra, The Macarena, anything by Abba, and watching Scotty Grow.

I also hate that song called Having My Baby by Paul Anka, as well as Mandy by Barry Manilow.

Lady Topaz

Perhaps the most hated song of all time is The Macarena. It actually made me feel shame for the human race.

      Blink your right eye.

      Blink your left eye.

       Blink both eyes twice.

      Christopher Reeves doing the Macarena.

(I'm going straight to hell for that one aren't I?)

CuriouslyKat -> RE: The First Official CollarMe(tm) Really Bad Music Thread (9/16/2006 8:59:50 PM)

R. Kelly's "Trapped in the Closet" songs...They are a trainwreck, a big old hot mess of a trainwreak.

Also all these little pretty R&B/pop princess that can't sing....Hate.

I can't stand much of the new school R&B and hate most Rap.

Kat, who wonders if there is a good music thread.....
