ORIGINAL: tazzygirl There is 15 years between me and you. Obama is older. We were both out of high school before you started grade school. Thats not a snark.. its just how it is. Alot of changes have occured in the college requirements, as well as testing in high school, between you and me. Taking in the fact that his life wasnt always spent being poor, if it ever was, he had a better chance than most in his racial group to score much better. If I recall, one of the questions that brought about the changes in the SATs was about a cup and saucer... because most poor children didnt know what a saucer was. Partly it reflected the economics of the family. But there were also issues with "cultural" questions and the examples given for questions. Off the top of my head I do not recall how many times they have re-done the SAT. It has been more than a few. I recall a question on the PSATs that completely baffled me. It was an analogy and the first half was, "a gridiron is to football as. . ." I had NO idea what a gridiron was. I have never followed sports. This is an example of a male-oriented question. And yes, I used the term "statistically speaking" because I know that there are always outliers. Just like his mother's age and education level at his birth is a statistic predictor of how well he would do on the SATs.
