Well, until May, 2013, you are correct.  BDSM is in a highly technical legal sense "illegal."  I refer, of course, to DSM-IV-TR.
 
DSM-V removes all paraphilia and casts pedophilia as a separate, distinct mental illness.  I'm proud to say that I had a teeny, tiny part of helping make that happen.

Perhaps you meant to say "insane" instead of "illegal".  Mental illness is not illegal.

That's a great idea!  You should both wear one of those "faceless hood" masks you find in Halloween stores.  I'll bust out one of my elegant Venetian ones though, because people need to know who is in charge here.

I stand corrrected.  BUT DSM-whatever number has always been the legal definition of mental illness and as such causes legal problems for BDSM practitioners.  I'm thinking more of divorice, child custody, and the like.  I'm familiar with too many ancedotes to relate.  Both ways - BTW.  One guy abused wife horribly - broken jaw and eye socket - and then raped her in front of their two pre-teen kids.  He claimed it was BDSM and therefore he was mentally ill and therefore shouldn't/couldn't be charged with abuse and rape.
