With no disrespect to any of the other posters advice, I would skip the zoning issue. In probably 99% of the US its not going to be approved anyway. Your first concern should be about physical safety. Consider all the implications of running ads, having people know where your home is, do you have children living there (if so, forget it, very very bad idea), noise factor, neighbors and so forth. You need a security plan, someone that checks in and up on you before, during and after every client. I won't go into a room/dungeon as thats fairly obvious. Depending on where you live check with the city about business permits. If one is required for all home business's (authors, Amway, web design etc) get a permit and state that you do something like web design. Something that would not involve any actual traffic, no chemicals, no need for parking, no need for a fire dept. inspection, etc. This is important, PAY YOUR TAXES! The majority of people that get into trouble with home business's is tax evasion. If you ever had a problem as regards obscenity, vice, zoning etc, usually those court cases are very hard to win. Where they usually win (including porn, the mob, etc) is federal tax issues. Keep it simple and quiet. Respect your neighbors and their privacy and they will usually respect yours. Advise clients of no loud music when at your residence, no honking horns, no throwing trash out the window, no anything illegal, noisy, bad taste (showing up in a leather thong and a collar etc). Just advise, no demand, that they show up in an adult and mature manner.
