Always loved that name, in fact I reserved it back in the days should I ever have a daughter....Her full name would be Caitlinn Erin Megan.
Caitlinn Erin Meagan....that's so.....well...Not Dutch. [:D][:D][:D]

Try as I might, I haven't found "Why you little son of a ..." in any baby name books,
so I'll just have to accept it at face value and learn to love it.

OK, time for more cuteness...hold your panties up ladies....

When my daughter was born, we couldn't decide on a name for several days, none of the ones we had decided on seemed to suit her. One of the nurses suggested we name her "Sit Down and Shutup". her reasoning is that we would say that to her so often that we might as well name her that.

Shoot me a message.  I prefer most people to know me by the more ominous nickname here. =)

soul2share -> RE: By any other name... (5/8/2011 5:22:10 PM)

Growing up, I hated my name.....wouldn't even answer to it at school.....we had one teacher who was older than dirt, and she believed in using true given names, not nicknames.  I'd simply look at her and play dumb when she used my given name.  That, and it's the title of a well known Beatles song, so everytime I meet someone, they just have to sing the damn thing....have I mentioned that I'm not a Beatles fan?

Now, it's no biggie....the family still calls me by the nic I had growing up.  It's just something to make it easier to get my attention in a crowd.  Of course, "HEY, YOU!" works in a pich!

My names are Italian...

So are mine. They are melodious, although I got teased for the last name in gradeschool.

Aynne88 -> RE: By any other name... (5/8/2011 8:12:05 PM)

Yep. I love my name. It is Anna Marie. I just like it.

MaxsBoy -> RE: By any other name... (5/8/2011 8:22:42 PM)

My birth name is pretty nice actually, but was shortened to a really cutesy and obnoxious nickname throughout childhood, which ruined it for me.  I go by a totally unrelated female name in all the places where I'm not out.  The male name that I have chosen to change to as I transition is completely unrelated to either my birth name (which can shorten to a common male name, but it's a really ugly one) or the female nickname I go by at work.

Complicated, huh? [:)]

Daddysredhead -> RE: By any other name... (5/8/2011 8:36:21 PM)

I like my name just fine. Growing up, I wanted a different name, but now, I like it (sort of like being a redhead... hated it as a kid, love it now). My nickname that my friends call me is what I called myself when I was just a few years old. It suits me.

What? Your profile says you're a sub! (I crack me up!)

hlen5 -> RE: By any other name... (5/9/2011 8:55:09 AM)

I always liked my full name, even before I knew it's meanings. My first name can mean either bubbling brook or warrior. My middle name is a variation of Helen, meaning light. I think Warrior of the Light suits me.

FelineFae -> RE: By any other name... (5/9/2011 9:20:37 AM)

mine mean " princess witch or goddess "

Charnegui -> RE: By any other name... (5/9/2011 9:34:50 AM)

My first name means: Looking, or watching and is in Spain a real last name.
My second name means, rebirth, more common known as renaissance.

My last name is a village nearby Rotterdam :)

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: By any other name... (5/9/2011 9:47:35 AM)

This is a fun thread! The name that I use here is the botanical name of the flower for which I was named. Each of my mother's Norwegian family members came up with the name, depending on who was telling the story. [8D]

When I was born, there was a smallpox epidemic in Seattle. I was the 2nd child & 6 weeks early, so they hadn't come up with my name yet. They thought they had plenty of time, after all. So my mother gets rushed to the hospital, my father is at the University taking a test, I was born & the only way they had to communicate with each other was by mail. When the people came around for a name for my birth certificate, my mother must have been drugged, because she told them my name was Beatrice Louise.

After 10 days--yeah, I'm really farkin' old--she brought me home from the hospital & introduced me to her family. They had a collective hissy & insisted that she rename me Linea Christine. They all liked the name, but none of them knew how it was supposed to be spelled, so they left out one of the N's.

I am extremely shy & I really hated my name because the American children couldn't pronounce it properly & they would forget it, so I was always correcting or reminding people what this really odd name was. I went to 3 high schools & by the 2nd one, I'd decided to shorten it to a more American name, Lyn. Fast forward several decades & I decided to reclaim my given name & by then I didn't care if people mispronounced it, I would even mispronounce it when introducing myself to make it easier on them.

After my last divorce, I decided that I wanted to take the Norwegian family name, which is the name of the farm where my Grandfather was born, outside of Oslo. I also dropped my middle name because whenever I used both names, I could hear my mother screeching at me when she was angry.

I like this wonderful ethnic name & I like that it's misspelled, because it's me.

So, your name is Honefoss? (Chicken Falls?)

Ummmm, no. Different farm. LOL

peachgirl -> RE: By any other name... (5/9/2011 6:49:49 PM)

My name is constantly mispronounced. Even when I ask people to just call me by my nickname they just revert to mispronouncing my first name. (eta: it means, pure or maiden. hah!)

Since it's a kinda common European name, I don't encounter that with anyone who speaks any of the European languages.

poise -> RE: By any other name... (5/9/2011 7:02:33 PM)

My name, Elizabeth, means consecrated with God. And yet, I was born with a caul, and many would
have you believe an infant born with a caul was doomed to be a vampire later in life or after death. [:o]

I was nicknamed Ely (rhymes with jelly) since as long as I can remember, and I prefer my nickname best.
Except when my twin brother, or some of the posters here, make fun of me with it.[:(]
