The latest riots, sparked by a rumour that a Muslim convert was abducted by the local church, lasted for hours Saturday night and into Sunday morning. Muslim mobs attacked two churches, burning one; 12 people died, and more than 200 were injured. Later in the day, Muslims and Christians pelted each other with stones in another part of Cairo. Police and soldiers moved in to break up the violence, but it was hours that they effectively cleared the streets around the churches — a delay that prompted neighborhood criticism for perceived military reluctance to interfere. But authorities arrested 190 people after the church attack, sending them to military prosecutions and threatening the maximum penalty against anyone attacking houses of worship. Among those arrested on Monday were Yassin Thabet, 31, who claimed his wife is being held against her will in the church. The authorities also detained the owner of the coffee house opposite the church; witnesses said gunfire originated there.

Are there no police in Egypt…are all abductions solved by the burning of churches?

I seem to be defending Sanity a lot lately but facts are facts and truths are truths.

There are a few Islamic majority countries that the governments and the people tolerate other religions. But there are also many others that persecute people according to the God they worship.

Just run a search on Google for confirmation. ..Hell try to convert to Christianity in Afghanistan and see what happens and we are dieing for their freedoms.

So the bottom line… there is little true freedom of religion in many Islamic majority countries and those brave souls that live and worship any God other than Allah live in fear.

What is wrong with pointing this out?

Now… are mosques burned as well…yes and people should feel free to point this out but one action does not justify the other in a civilized world.

While I do a bit of cleaning on this thread, I would like to suggest that you all take a deep breath and think twice before making a personal attack just for the fun of it.

I'll be in touch.

Now that the thread has been taken from four pages to two, please consider responding to the topic and not making other members the topic. If your post was removed it was for being off topic, quoting a post that required removal, personal attack, was inflammatory or was a response to any of the above.

Thank you and have a nice day.

Why is the OP still there if "inflammatory" is a problem?

Because its essentially a straightforward AP news article.

News of the world isnt considered inflammatory to those of us who are willing to open our eyes to the world around us and who dare to ask questions about the things that we see

And yet, you didnt ask anything about the abduction, or why there were crowds of christians and muslims throwing stones at each other.. You just focused on the fact that they were being called conservative muslims.
People including me asked questions beyond the AP article.. you changed the subject again and again.
so you dont have an open mind, or even open eyes.

You dont have much of a grievance, you were free to chime in with any tidbits of information you believed we may find interesting all along Lucy.

So I dont quite understand your point. Are you angry that Im not as perfectly PC as you think I should be? Or are you suggesting that no one should be allowed to question church burnings... or to question anything related to Islam?

I asked you a question and you refused to answer, but no biggy I just laughed it off. So youre not making any sense to me

I was asking questions, you were just making statements, making strawmen.
There's no wonder you don't understand me,....... apart from the fact you don't/can't answer straight questions and
Im speaking english and you are wilfully ignorant
The three together don't bode well for you at all.
The problem isnt mine

Its not about that, its just the fact that most people are foucsing on, & not seeing the big picture,
& its kind of making small hate group against those or those.

people here have attacked my when i put a (homer simpson avatar), not attacking again on hitler.

If I see an avatar that i like i say I liked it or loving it (Lucylastic avatar by the way is more than hot), & when I see one that i dont like I dont say anything, I may ask a qustion but i dont make an opinion.
its my right to say whatever i want whenever i want yes but, I often gave up that right to keep respect, friendship, or alliance.

The article was short on key details.   For instance-  the abduction.   It glossed over it.  It was more of a foot note.

Pa the point is...no one knows if this person was abducted or not... there was a street riot instigated by Muslims against Christian churches because of an unsubstantiated claim.

Even if there was an abduction it is the duty of the police not a mob. This was one religion against another plain and simple.

It would be different if it were one instance of mob rule in Egypt but there have been many. To close our eyes to and make excuses for religious persecution is deplorable.

Now again…I am not saying all Muslims are against religious freedom but there is a particular radical portion that is and this should be pointed out without prejudice against Sanity for posting facts.

In my mind this is akin to certain other church burnings, which were also deplorable

We do not have enough information.       Which is pretty standard with many articles.

In Indonesia there have been burnings of places of worship of both religions. I think we can agree all are deplorable.

But this instance you linked to should not be dismissed only because you did not link a mosque being burned are did not emphasize the possibility of an abduction. There is no excuse or reason except for religious persecution period…at least in my way of thinking.

I hate to say it but I get the idea that if a different person had posted that link there would have been a different response and thats not right.
