It's a tie, really. I worked for a company called Brelonix making highly sought after aircraft radios. From scratch. It was a four man shop. I didn't design the thing, or calibrate it, but I did every other step in the manufacture. The varied task set really works for me. Unfortunately, that is not the way things generally work. In most factories, one guy does one thing, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over while slowly going mad. And the company makes money. As much more fun as it is to use a craft or guild methodology, it's a prescription to have someone else eat your lunch. Very close second is firefighter for the Forest Service. The fabulous feeling of the struggle against Nature to help people you plan not to meet. I highly recommend this business to young men. But I am just not big enough to be durable under those conditions. And also certain issues prevent me sleeping often enough to become a real problem when you must sleep when the opportunity arises. If I could have made a career of either of these things, I would have enjoyed it. So...pbm...what is your favorite sandwich?
