EternalDecent -> BDSM on ebay! (5/10/2011 2:03:25 PM)

I've recently been reading and realizing that male chastity devices can be found much cheaper on ebay as opposed to stock.com or similar sites. However, I have never ordered anything from ebay, so I'm naturally reluctant. Funny side fact, I used to work with a company that dealt directly with ebay and amazon, and still I don't know jack about online ordering. I have seen a few that I'm interested in, even place a bid...just to be constantly outbid.

I suppose what I want to know is, how do I bid? Is there a proper timing or easier method? Also, even though you can see the sellers review and past sales, are they accurate? Is ther any need for concern, on my part, of being ripped off or not getting what I ordered?

I'm nearly 23, ordering from ebay for my first time...sad I know.

Because of the way eBay is set up, any and every transaction is only as reliable as the particular seller making it. From my experience with eBay, sellers' reviews and past sales were reflected accurately.

My advice to a new eBay user: Check feedback carefully, look at past sales to see what other items similar to what you want to buy are sold for, and then wait to bid until shortly (5-10 minutes or LESS) before the auction is due to end.

Some sellers offer a "buy it now" option (set price with no bidding), which buyers seem to like.

Some things to look out for: international sellers, sellers who charge high postage for a small light object, and sellers with no return policy. Realize that you most likely will not be able to return the device should you not like it or it not fit properly, so buyer beware is the way to go.

I do buy things from eBay, but I tend to be careful.

I have never had any issues with anything I bought via Amazon, and we both buy tons of books and such.

I love eBay and I have only had one bad experience.  The quality of the item was pretty poor, but I didn't pay much for it so I didn't lose much.  I agree with Chatte; check the seller's feedback and read the negative responses.  Look to see if it was a problem with the item or with the seller's service.  A lot of sellers use drop shippers or buy bulk lots of cheap stuff to break up and sell.  The quality of the merchandise is harder to predict with mass produced items.

Also pay attention to the seller's return policy.  Be wary of one that's only a few days long.  I also recommend you find something you like and then place it on your Watch list if it's an auction.  An item with a Buy It Now option will often be available longer at a fixed price.  An auction can get crazy in the last hours.  If it's an auction, wait to bid until the last couple of hours so you know whether it's going to go higher than you're willing to pay.

I've purchased a few BDSM items from eBay.  The best thing I found was a hand-made set of wrist and ankle cuffs made of the most gorgeous purple leather.  They are butter soft and very sturdy.  I couldn't have asked for better and I didn't pay more than $40 for them.  I think it was less than $30 but it's been awhile since I got them.

EBay uses proxy bidding last I heard. You just bid the maximum you're willing to pay and it bids automatically in the preset increments until it hits your limit. This way noone can make a huge bid and screw the deal all up. Remember others are also bidding by proxy. This happens fast so going right back to the item will tell you pretty quick if you are high bidder.

Your bid is a contract, and it is not easy to unbid. If you really want the thing and get outbid, make the decision then if you want to go higher.

The only problem I have with eBay is that everyone wants Paypal. I found it ridiculous to get a Paypal account for small pruchases. And accepting Paypal is not much safer than anything else. Scams that might have been done by forged checks or money orders are now done by claiming the item is no good or whatever and getting a refund. What's more since I no longer use credit cards (for now) I just won't. I will not tie anything electronic or automatic to my main bank account and I don't feel like opening more right now. Hard enough to keep one going these days.

Also with an account you can view bid history on an item. However on kinky stuff usually it is a private auction and therefore information is very limited.

I have 100% positive feedback, but only as a buyer. When you view feedback look to see the feedback as seller for the real scoop. I only had one bad feedback and it got removed because I paid through their normal CC system and Paypal said I didn't pay, when I had.

Paypal was always a big turnoff for me, and now eBay has bought Paypal, so, sorry about their luck.

Actually, like you, I do not plan on using credit or even bank accounts (due to prior misfunding). The whole reason I'm even thiI have no credit or bank abay is due to paypal and how easy it seems. i have bad credit and banking history so the only way I can even think of purchasing online is via a prepaid card...which is what I'm now doing. My only is being relucant with the seller him/her self. But that has been cleared up now.

Hopefully my first purchase goes well.

Just remember that much of the merchandise sold on E-Bay is used merchandise.  I don't think you want a used chastity device.  That would be nasty.  Kind of like a woman buying a used dildo.  Yuck!

Make sure the item is new before you place your bid.  [:D]

No worries on that end. That is one of the first things I checked. Nice comparison though

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: BDSM on ebay! (5/11/2011 4:43:27 AM)

Sometimes I get cheeky an run the bid up so high the next bidder would have to want it awful bad, or a ton of ppl wanted it an ran it up over my bid maximum. Like a 10 dollar item I reaaaaaaaaallllly really want with 7 hours or less I put my max bid at 50 dollars, and am rarely ever out bid. When item ends all I gotta pay is 10. The 50 was an automatic place marker. Keep in mind though you better be prepared to pay the amount you wagered an don't do it if you're not. It could get bid up to the max you put.

You can also search for buy it now auctions, an once you confirm buy it, it's yours, just like in a store. Nobody can come behind you an bid it out from under you.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: BDSM on ebay! (5/11/2011 4:46:51 AM)

Some of it's brand new, in package un used. It's second hand sure, but second hand does not ALWAYS in all cases mean used on some one elses body. To bypass used always make sure the sale indicates new in package, un opened:)

Most sellers (especially the ones that don't sell professionally) aren't too happy about PayPal because it costs them extra, eBay forces most sellers to accept PayPal so they can charge double...

grrrovel -> RE: BDSM on ebay! (5/11/2011 8:39:44 AM)

I've bought tons of stuff from ebay, i love it. I've found that the best way to buy an item is to decide how much i'm willing to pay, highest amount, then i make my bid at the very last moment, providing of course, that the amount isn't lower than the highest bid. I only press the 'place bid' button 20 seconds before the auction end. The process takes ten to fifteen seconds, leaving very little time for anyone else to outbid you, i've won lots of auctions this way.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: BDSM on ebay! (5/11/2011 3:08:36 PM)

some stuff on ebay is used, sure, but nowadays most of it is new. when ebay first started it was like an online garage sale, but now there are people selling all sorts of brand new stuff. i got a great set of REALLY cheap cuffs from there; i'll probably order another set, just as backups.

just make sure you REALLY want the thing you want, and if you only want to use money orders or something, sometimes you can convo the seller and they might make a special payment arrangement with you.

i'm 39 and only just recently bought my first things from ebay. i bought samplers of expencive aftershave to see if i liked a particular one for the guy i see. i checked out the seller through the comments and my order was with me in a couple of days. i returned their good sale by giving them a good review.

i do the same with people who sell through amazon too and so far i've had no problems at all.

The chastity device I got off ebay was unused (or at east shrink wrapped), but wasn't a very good one. I'd suggest that ED checks the description very carefully before ordering anything like that off there.
It's also worth bearing in mind, depending on where you are, that there's other internet sites selling this stuff that could be just as cheap as ebay. It's always worth shopping around a bit first.

ThundersCry -> RE: BDSM on ebay! (5/12/2011 5:51:01 PM)

Without a paypal aact your pretty much screwed now days, though you can always write the seller and as if they will take a money order,etc...and be prepared to PAY to much for shipping -L-

You can buy the CB200`s....3000`s, whatever number they are up to very reasonable and probably get some sort of guarentee...

You get what you pay for...

One thing about learning about ebay is to jump in and give it a try and bid on whatever fancy`s you...I think most of us that do dealings with ebay have had our own hard knocks....nothing like experience!

Some gave you good imput...use it.

Why not use a free snipe program, like justsnipe? That way you don't have to be a slave (pardon the pun) to the auction-end time and can just relax and go about your business. It's easy and quite reliable. You decide what the top end is you're willing to pay, enter it with the item number, and the program automatically bids for you in the last 8 seconds, avoiding the 'bidding frenzy' that can drive the price up unnecessarily. Unless your max amount is below the highest existing bid, it'll add just the minimum necessary to get you the auction. Works like a dream...got lots of great stuff this way.

Re: 'used' chastity devices such as the CB-whatevers...as long as they are made from acrylic or metal they are easily sanitized (use gloves, soak in 10% bleach solution, then scrub with dish soap and water, air dry...which is how it should be cleaned the first time it comes out of the package and each time after you use it.) Think 'non-porous' material if you have any doubt about whether something may have been...uhhh, 'test driven.'

grrrovel -> RE: BDSM on ebay! (5/13/2011 10:49:17 AM)

Never heard of justsnipe before, thanks, i'll give that a try xxxx nikita
