I guess accepting responsibility for their own mistakes doesn't apply.

The law doesn't allow them to accept responsibility for their own mistakes. If you missed it FEMA seems to be in favor of the bill to allow them to do so.

Why does the government have laws stating they don't have to accept responsibility for their mistakes but expects citizens to accept responsiblity for their own mistakes? I can't imagine what victims of natural disasters go through and hope I never find out. They need to leave these people alone.

Well that sounds rude.     We should disband FEMA.   They no longer serve the public.

Actually FEMA needs to be cleaned up. The whole agency is top heavy with supervisory staff, the people that actually do the work are under trained.

Speaking to this issue directly, it seems that no one at FEMA understands that if you have Flood Insurance on a mortgaged home, the insurance goes to the mortgage company NOT the home owner, so in essence, the home owner gets hosed.

The article states a long laundry list going back many years.    So they had all this time to fix their system.   It does not sound like it burped- it sounds like it is systematic. (ongoing)

I have news for all of you.

Until you have dealt directly with government you have no clue but it is every agency that is the same way!

Any time you need something that is not the norm you get the big fuck you.

They wont even sign for paperwork unless "served" on them by a process server.

this is serious shit people and feam might be out in the open but literally every agency that I have dealt with become immediate pricks leaving you with one option and that is to sue them.

Now if you have to sue them you have to hire a POS attorney and you may as well dig 10k just to get them to look at it.

None of these agencies take responsiblity for any damn thing and if you are legally educated enough to prosecute your own cases when they write letters to you no one will sign them!

starting to get my drift?

Probably because as a general rule the government as a whole tries to recover payments made incorrectly.

I'm just glad I never took any FEMA money after hurricane Andrew.

"I'm from the government, and I'm here to help"

This goes back to the government not accepting responsibility for its own mistakes. If fraud was involved, I could understand FEMA asking for the money back. But these people did not commit fraud. The mistakes were made by FEMA, not them.
