barelynangel -> The VOICE -- new TV reality show (5/10/2011 6:35:43 PM)

Okay we all know some people just don't like reality shows and this thread isn't to discuss the merits of all reality shows lol.

I have watching THE VOICE from its inception.  I actually love all of the "experts/coaches" as singers and professionals.  i am liking this show. I didn't like the do overs when the coaches didn't have enough people to choose from so they to me sorta forced the judges to pick people they already discarded.  But hopefully they will change that in the new seasons.   I can't say i will continue to like it as i don't know how it will go as tonight is only the 3rd show and the second phase.

So basically this thread is for those who have seen the show -- what do you think of this show?  I am very excited as Reba will be on as a guest tonight and i LOVE me some Reba.

I watched the second night of tryouts and it wasn't bad.  I'm not a huge fan of reality shows but every so often I'll watch one because of some celebrity host or guest.  I loved how the judges were all trading zingers with each other, especially Christina and Blake(?) - the dark haired guy that seems a bit effeminate.  I guess you can only have one queen on stage at a time.

The part I disliked the most was that some of the contestants who got picked really didn't do a good job at all.  Several times I noticed they were singing off key, yet they still got chosen over others who were clearly superior.  Fortunately, some of those who were passed over got to come on during the second chance round.  I might watch it again, depending on what else is on opposite it.

Don't you be talkin' about Blake Shelton that way woman! lol just kidding.  He is actually marrying Miranda Lambert (whom you probably don't know either lol) Think Country Music  in May and i believe HE is bringing REBA onto the show tonight --- yeah!!    I also enjoyed the baiting and joking among the coaches.  I agree about some of the off key singing but they could have been listening for potential as many of them explained they turned around at the last minute sometimes because they heard something in the bad.

Tonight, the way i understand it, the coaches will have to eliminate performers from their own teams as two fight it out by singing the same song.  But its the coach of that team that needs to boot people off his own team.

I THINK that's how its working tonight.  Then the third phase i think is like American Idol where they sing and America chooses who gets eliminated.

Don't take my word for it lol.

I didn't watch the second show totally but I love the voices on this show...to me they are better talent than the ones on "Idol"....I will watch tonight to see what happens...I like the format too...I like "Idol" but only the part where they are finding the talent to begin with and then I don't watch after that...so this show is better for me.

I think she means he's one of the contestants on the Dutch version of "The Voice", which, apparently, is where the show originated.

I really like the rapport amongst the judges. Cee Lo is such a dog! *LOL* And...not being a country fan, I had never heard of Blake Shelton before. Ooo la la! I like! :D And he's TALL! I LOVE TALL MEN!!! ACK! Okay, I'll settle down now. :D Dayum though...mmm, mmm, mmm! Adam cracks me up. And geez...I can't get over that Christina is 30 already! She seems like the glue that holds all of those boys together. ;)

What did you think of the show tonight? I didn't think Frenchie was the better of the two. And I knew Cee Lo would pick the girl he picked, even though I think the other girl was just as good. It seemed like Adam purposely picked the song he chose to set up the girl and get rid of the guy. And I felt sorry for Tyler 'cause I knew Blake would likely go with the country dude.

Can't wait for next week! :)

Edited to add: I am now following Blake Shelton on Twitter. Hee!! Could I be any bigger of a goof? :D

Woops!  Not Blake.  I remember they made a big deal of his recent engagement.  It was the other guy.  Adam?  I'm terrible at remembering names.   The one with black hair.

This is why I'm not in the music business.  I didn't hear whatever it was they heard.  The only exception was the little 16-year-old girl.  She's so young and has only been training for a short time.  I think she's really going to blossom under Christina's mentoring.  Even if she doesn't win, it's going to be a great experience for her.

I had a phone call so I missed the new episode.  How did it go?

Yeah, that's the guy.  The other Diva.

NocturnalStalker -> RE: The VOICE -- new TV reality show (5/11/2011 1:20:32 PM)

Here is an entertaining thought;

How much people from these talent shows do you really see hit it in the mainstream?

SylvereApLeanan -> RE: The VOICE -- new TV reality show (5/11/2011 1:26:16 PM)

Well, American Idol gave us Carrie Underwood, Daughtry, Kelly Clarkson, Jordan Sparks and Adam Lambert.  You may not think much of their music but they're all making it in the mainstream.  They also making more money and are more famous than you.

NocturnalStalker -> RE: The VOICE -- new TV reality show (5/11/2011 1:47:58 PM)

The only people that are relevant from that list are Carrie Underwood and Adam Lambert.  I would even stretch to say Underwood, seeing as she is more country which is a genre most mainstream listeners abhor.  Famous, yes, but not anywhere near the same league of a Katy Perry or Lady Gaga.

Kelly Clarkson?  She has been useless for years now.  Her recent album had little to no staying power.  She was semi-big in the days of that weird transitional period that the mid-2000's experienced but ever since she is in need of a drastic change.

Jordin Sparks.  A forgettable winner.  Hey, here's some food for thought; people cared more about some guy who couldn't sing for his life than anybody else on that show that season.  The only song I can recall her ever doing was that, "Learning to fly" one.  Hey, Jordin, how about you "learn to not suck?"

Daughtry didn't even win Idol when he was on it.  He had a few songs with his band, but again, he does nothing to stand out or distinguish himself.  Any band out there can sing a Daughtry song better than Daughtry but nobody ever will.

And Josh Turner.
