Do you own any great clothes that have a single fatal flaw?

Status: offline 		A friend of mine has this great black shirt with orange pinstripes that would be perfect except, for some reason, there are big gold epaulets on the shoulders. I mean it's a gorgeous shirt but then there are these big gaudy shoulder things. So every time he wears it out I call him "Colonel" and throw him exaggerated salutes. I believe I have finally bruised his self-esteem and made him self-conscious enough he won't wear it anymore which is good because he looks great in it and draws attention away from me.

Meanwhile, my favorite pair of casual pants are perfect! Perfect fit, great color, great style! But they have this enormous back pocket. It's too deep. It's too wide. It's cavernous! Every time I put my wallet in there, it's like dropping it down a gulch! So if I have to reach for it, I find myself having to literally shove my whole hand in the pocket and really root around down there. It always feels like I'm causing a scene.

Do you own any clothes that would be straight-up perfect if not for a single glaring flaw???

Status: offline 		I have a stunningly gorgeous black and gold victorian silk velvet shawl that I bought because it reminded me of Stevie Nicks.

But alas, the damn thing never lays right. Fatal flaw.

Also, one cannot walk around channeling Stevie Nicks too often.

Status: offline 		In NYC, they have an annual club thing called the Night of a Thousand Stevie's where everyone goes to this club and dresses like Stevie, men, women, gay, straight, it is an homage to the goddess that is Stevie. :)

I never went but love the idea. When I was in college, I was in a band and I was so obsessed with her, I wore the exact clothes down to lavendar suede thigh highs.

Ah..memories.

Status: offline 		Cant he remove the epaulets? Seems a waste of a cool shirt. I dont like epaulets most of the time.

I like modifying clothes if there is a problem I like to find a way around it, a way to make it better.

Just take your favorite pants with the huge pocket..to any local dry cleaner. they usually have a seamstress that can fix most any issue with clothing.

as for your friends great black shirt. Tell him to get a lil tool called a seam ripper and use it to remove the shoulder things. Plucking one thread at a time and then wash the shirt to remove the stitch holes.

Status: offline 		I own LOTS of great clothes with a fatal flaw: they don't fit me anymore.

A (relatively) recent back injury has kept me from exercising for months, and at my age that means weight gain.

Status: offline 		Flaws, like beauty, are in the eye of the beholder. Obviously your friend likes the epaulets and wishes you would stop being such a dick about it. The designer who created your pants must have been tired of wriggling to get his wallet out of a tight pocket and wanted one bigger.

But there are tailors and seamstresses everywhere. Dry cleaners, tuxedo shops, and just look in your local phone book. For that matter, lots of housewives with sewing skills do this part time.

Status: offline 		I have enjoyed several folks giving me their wonderful clothes when they got too heavy to fit in them. Some of my most expensive nice clothes came to me this way! I dont wish weight gain on anyone but if it is going to happen I like and am grateful for the clothes some folks gave me.

Status: offline 		I have a favourite pair of jeans. A brand that no longer exists. They are 20 years old and too fragile to wear. They are perfect.......except they are falling apart.

Many things that are too tight in the boobage area have passed through. I just finally came to the realization, about 15 years ago, that if I want something fitted through the chest and have it fit properly, it will either have to be of knit fabric or custom made. Nothing is nastier than bewbage spillage. Well.....maybe muffin tops.........and butt cracks.
