DMV Technician Arrested on Fraud Charges
Woman facing federal prosecution after allegedly issuing licenses to illegal immigrants
State and federal investigators have arrested a Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles technician who allegedly issued more than 200 Nevada driver’s licenses illegally.

Nancy P. Brown of Las Vegas, 28 years old, is accused of receiving compensation ranging from $1,500 to $3,000 for each license.

“We are always on the alert for fraudulent activities both inside and outside the department,” said DMV Director Bruce Breslow, “and we constantly monitor departmental transactions. Brown will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law both criminally and administratively.”

Brown was arrested May 5 at the Caesar’s Palace Hotel/Casino and was booked into the Henderson jail. She faces federal charges of Fraud and Theft or Bribery. Brown worked at the DMV branch on Sahara Ave. in Las Vegas and has been with the department since 2007.

Investigators with the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles' Compliance Enforcement Division, U.S. Attorney’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations say Brown worked with a series of middlemen outside the DMV to recruit immigrants and accept payments. Information gathered from the department’s Facial Recognition and Fraud Monitoring System initiated the investigation which is ongoing.

The fraudulent driver’s licenses are being cancelled. The DMV will send certified letters to the license holders and is alerting other licensing agencies through the national Problem Driver Pointer System.

Corrupt officials of our local, state, or federal government should get an automatic sentence enhancement. I'm think along the standards of whether the cocaine is crack or powder.

She did get away with it until someone got stupid. The welfare office, employers and others don't usually run the numbers. What it took was for one of her customers to get busted, otherwise it would've gone on for alot longer.

Anyone who gets busted for something like this is stupid. First of all what was it, 200 licenses ? Well I would pay five grand for one, so that would be a million bucks. But no, she was probably doing it for a grand. Stupid stupid stupid. Whenever you do something illegal you have to get ready for the bust. That means money hidden away somewhere and a place to go. She should've already had a new identity. If not she should've had something all set up, like a relative in another state or something. Get everything out of her name. This ESPECIALLY since there was a clear paper trail leading straight to her.

But some people just don't consider these things. Sorry about their luck.

Termyn8or is absolutely correct on this, it's all about risk versus reward. I grew up in a rougher part of the country and many of my "friends" decided to do criminal activities and often wanted me to take part. I'd always ask them how much they planned to make from these activities, then took the income and divided it by the number of potential years prison time if they got caught. Then I would ask them, so you think this is a good idea when it amounts to $1200 a year for 20 years if you get caught? Just go work at McDonalds.

It's the small time thinking that makes me laugh the hardest at most criminals. Sure it might be worth breaking a law if you stand to make enough to retire on and you have an exit strategy.

I don't think anyone ever commits a crime with the thought of getting caught.

I am sure she'll get plenty of time to think about how dumb she was.

Yes. But it doesn't really take growing up in bad places. Take pot dealers. Possesion is one thing, possesion for sale is another. So they don't have a bunch of nickel bags made up, they got a quarter pound on the floor of a van and a box of baggies. One of the best dealers in this town did it for about thirty years and never got busted. He retired. He said straight out that he had enough money and it was time to quit.

I don't steal because I don't want to. But there was a time when I was very wiling. I didn't because there was nothing accessible to me to make it worth it. Well, we considered robbing a bookie but you might have an idea what that entails. First of all no witnesses, and then it is time to leave town. With the connections I had it was not worth it to leave town. Start all over in a new place ? Well I guess it could be done but........

And there is another thing, the witness protection program does not work. It is designed not to work. Don't believe me ? Try it sometime. That's why it's never good to roll. You WILL be found. What people don't understand is that the government is more crooked than any of us could afford to be. They want that one guy, they get him. After that the witnesses are expendable. They made promises in secret. They don't even keep the promises they make in public. Do the math.

But in this case anyone who didn't realize the existence of the paper trail was very stupid. Nobody had to roll. All it takes is for one customer to get busted and they don't have to say a word. They didn't roll, because they are a conspiracy. They could be blood for all we know. It just simply doesn't matter, SOMEONE logged on to a government computer and lied that they had seen sufficient documentation.

There are crooked notaries all over the place. You could steal a car and get a duplicate title and own it free and clear with a crooked notary. You know why people don't do that ? Because they know it could bite their connection as well as themselves in the ass. Now they got REAL enemies. I can get your signature notarized postumously, but that would be stupid.

Stupid customers kill operatins like this, and with stupidity so rampant one has to be very careful. Those other customers of this dumb ass are probably very pissed at the person who blew it wide open, and if they ever find him I would hate to be the underwriter of his life insurance policy.

I have one rule for committing a crime. If there isnt enough money to be made to get me out of the country and living like a queen on some deserted island... then its not enough money.
