I don't get any pain from badly written profiles, or empty profiles.

I use them as a filtering system. If they're not good enough IMO for whatever reason then I move on to the next. No pain at all!

What da bunny said.

HannahLynHeather -> RE: Profile Rating System Idea (5/11/2011 10:15:24 AM)

hey, you're welcome. actually just last night i was on yim with a friend discussing rewriting her profile and we were perving various profiles and discussing the mental image the profile created of the person. i'm sure some of them would have been surprised at the impression they give.

its always useful to get an outside perspective, but i don't think  the public forums is the right venue. trust me my first review of yours was a lot more "rude and insensitive". and if i were in a bad mood i'd have been pretty brutal about it. and there are folks on here who can be way harsher than i could ever be.

lol I do believe me! But I was hoping to stike a balance between giving someone a witty put down and constructive critique. Hopefully here is the place to do it.

You only think your that smart.....

I think you misunderstood me, my aim was to help someone who may not be the best at putting together a profile to create something that will help them find what they're looking for on collarme. They will still be writing it themselves, this system is merely there to assist them in that capacity. :)

To be honest, this is only from my perspective, I do not want people to be offered help in such ways. I want to read what other people have to say unfiltered through the gauntlet of well meaning collarme users. If someone is a really poor speller, or has very little clue how to present themselves then they should seek help for their issues. I would hope that people would know where their handicaps were without the help of other users.

I do not know how familiar you are with these boards, but there are many people who ask for profile help here, and there are many users that give them pointers. It just seems to me to be the lazy way to get help with your profile, and personally, the only thing I find less attractive than someone that has an ill-written profile is someone that is lazy. Unfortunately, it will be harder and harder to find out who the lax and lazy are with your system.

Just my opinion

mnottertail -> RE: Profile Rating System Idea (5/11/2011 10:29:07 AM)

you're gonna wanna use the word 'you're', there.

Kynetic -> RE: Profile Rating System Idea (5/11/2011 10:36:54 AM)

@GreedyTop:
"desperate ploy for profile views: I give it -1"
Thats a rather rash assumption, one which works both ways.

@Lockit:
lol yes, I have spent some time reading in that forum alright. :)

ProfileReviews -> RE: Profile Rating System Idea (5/11/2011 10:41:25 AM)

maybe something like this?

Just as long as you do not expect to be compensated for your position....

Kynetic -> RE: Profile Rating System Idea (5/11/2011 10:43:38 AM)

Actually yes, although I was thinking of just having a thread for it. But your idea is still good.
:)

of course i want compensation! i accept payment in cookies, cakes, and chocolate (preferably belgian).

actually that's why i said it would take a couple of days to get back to people.

ETA
hmmmmmmm 4 requests already. i may need assistants.

Does the compensation depend on how poorly constructed the original profile is deemed to be? In other words, for only spelling issues one cupcake... but editing out narcissistic personality disorder would take an entire three layer red velvet cake?

Time to create one-hundred dummy accounts and go to a library.

Kynetic -> RE: Profile Rating System Idea (5/11/2011 11:31:03 AM)

@mnottertail:
LOL nice one, thanks! :) :)

@SailingBum:
I meant it in the context of being polite and not trying to insult someone who is only looking for assistance with their profile. A concept which is sadly over your simple-minded head
:)

@juliaoceania:
I would take the opposite approach to the one you pointed out. Why not help someone with their profile, there are plenty of intelligent people out there who might have some difficulty in expressing themselves in a short profile, if they seek some help why should they be refused? They are still the ones writing the profile, I mean would you not seek advise on something you were not good at?

I see your point on it being a lazy way, and undoubtly some will only use this system on its own and that is their loss. Its only human nature to seek the simplest and shortest solution to a problem, but that will show in their profile. You get back what you put in and if they use this system as only one of many aids to writing a profile then it will show :)

What I am saying is that your system would allow someone to write a poorly constructed, ill thought out narrative about themselves and then wait passively by as people read it and comment to them about it.

You seem to think there is no help for those wanting it about how to write an internet profile
From Google - How to write an internet profile

Sorry, but my give a shit button is broken for those who put forth no effort to find out how their profile reads... especially since it is very common for them to come on to the forums and ask. Just look it up in the archives! What you suggest is that collarme makes their site idiot proof, which is not something I support, I would rather like to know who the idiots are.

Kynetic -> RE: Profile Rating System Idea (5/11/2011 11:58:51 AM)

Isnt that what people are doing anyway? Writing crappy profiles and passively waiting for people to comment on them.
You make it sound like every single person is going to suddendly want their profile reviewed, this is never going to be the case. My aim is to help those who want help, not waste my time on idiots who only want the traffic.

Of sourse there is help out there for people, but only if they choose to look for it. This would only be one more avenue for people to use, not THE only.

This is a far cry from making CM idiot proof, think of it as reducing their numbers or even converting a few. You can rest assured that no matter how tight you make it here, the idiots will always find a way in :)

flcouple2009 -> RE: Profile Rating System Idea (5/11/2011 12:10:17 PM)

Stuff like this is why we get the threads asking why sub men are so whiny and needy.

PetiteOralSub -> RE: Profile Rating System Idea (5/11/2011 12:12:51 PM)

I would much prefer that Masters construct thier own profiles,
the quality of the profile is a HUGE indicator to me of the quality of the Man!
I want to know if they are literate, insightful, can turn a phrase, intelligent (im sapiosexual -- this is a biggy for me),
priorities are revealed by content; preoccupation with specific sex acts = kinky, but probably not Lifestyle Master,
phraseology tells me if they are cyber doms, vanilla trolls, or inexperienced and not honest about it.
Without body language, a profile is hard enough to read as it is, take away the clues that come from how a person communicates in writing and I'd really be mired in deeper bullshit.
No, there is too much deception in internet social networking as it is, I would not wish to see professionals get paid to add to it.

juliaoceania -> RE: Profile Rating System Idea (5/11/2011 12:15:52 PM)

Well, if you can get the powers that be at CM to add such a feature, go you! I am doubtful they are going to add it, but if they did by some off chance, I hope they let us opt out of it. I do not care if others like my profile, the right person would like it, all the others do not matter.

I will say that most people who have one liner profiles, misspelling in their profiles, or who come off as really demanding are probably not going to benefit from such a system. I am guessing that those who need the help the most are likely the least receptive to getting it. But like I said, if you can get some judging sort of feature added whereby users can rate each other's profiles, and users want to opt into such judgment, have fun with it... it sounds fairly tedious to me...

"I think my profile sucks since I do not have any people viewing or messaging me.  Maybe I should ask a friend/the forums."

The feature is kind of useless when you look at it like that.
