Some close to Arnold Schwarzenegger speak of a loving marriage that slowly foundered. Friends of Maria Shriver see her as trapped for years in an unhappy relationship that hit a breaking point after her parents' deaths.

More here...

Good God, Julia. So flippin' what? Half the marriages going fail, and plenty of those don't last a fraction of 25 years.

Are you this bored? You haven't gotten fat too, have you? Does this really belong in politics?

SexyBossyBBW -> RE: The unraveling of the Schwarzenegger-Shriver marriage (5/11/2011 9:23:13 PM)

I thought it was sad news, unraveling after 25years. I suppose, if one is miserable, one shouldn't stay, regardless of how many years they were together. M

Considering she is from an illustrious political family, and he is the sitting governor of our fair state, I would say that it belongs in the political section..... when politicians get divorced it is usually news...

Now, you weren't interested, that is cool with me, but you are not the only person in the world. I fail to see what my weight has to do with it.

I wondered how they were ever a couple in the first place, but some people can put aside politics for love. I am not one of them, mind you, but some people can. I wondered about the timing of it, because they have been separated since January, the same month her father passed. Considering how catholic her family is, perhaps this was why she waited until both her parents became deceased. Perhaps she did not feel supported? Who knows for sure.

They have both come out and discussed the love and respect they still have for one another, so maybe they can work it out.....

I like Maria Shriver, and she has done a lot for women's issues in California...

tazzygirl -> RE: The unraveling of the Schwarzenegger-Shriver marriage (5/11/2011 9:30:30 PM)

I had heard they were separating but still working on their marriage.

No. That would Jerry Brown. Now if you want to talk about the cancer on his nose, and maybe relate that to health care, you'd be on the right page.

LOL, you are right... we do have a new governor, my bad. I was thinking about how she must have waited until he was out of office before leaving.....I was just talking to my sister about it before posting it...

Hey, you do not see the value of it politically, well you are always welcome to not post on the thread... whatever floats your boat, dude.

Me, I am off to bed soon, very tired

I need some sleep, time to log off and go to bed.

I wondered that as well. Not so much because of the politics. I believe that two people can co-exist, if they're both reasonable enough to discuss, and respect one another's views, and neither is on the extreme end of the spectrum.
I would have never put them together, but they must have really loved one another. I cannot imagine, being from such a prominent family, she would sacrifice 25 years, if she didn't trully care about him.

I like her a lot as well. She is powerful, but completely unaffected, it seems to me. M

What is so surprising or difficult about politically mixed marriages? I would have a much harder time dealing with someone who would make that a deal-breaker.

heartcream -> RE: The unraveling of the Schwarzenegger-Shriver marriage (5/11/2011 9:52:10 PM)

I find it sad when marriages break up but folks need to be on their own path and sometimes paths go off in different directions even when it is so painful to admit to and follow through and go in those different directions. I wish them the best although I dont know either of them at all kind of obviously.

Welcome back Willbe! Did you enjoy your holiday? I hope so!

"The Political is the Personal" - that slogan has only been around since the 1960s. That's a mere half century now. Isn't it time you got a bit up to date (or even, dare I suggest?) ........ (hushed tones) ...... contemporary?

I was kinda hoping you might have used your holiday to catch up but it seems a forlorn hope at this point ........[:(]

Really? My man is a fucking republican and it infuriates me to discuss politics with him. I usually steal his vote and vote for him via absentee ballot. Yep. Hey if the Masters can tell their slaves how to vote, which I have seen many times here, I figure a little turnabout is fair play. [;)].

In all seriousness I don't know how they lasted this long, he's rather an idiot.

Moonhead -> RE: The unraveling of the Schwarzenegger-Shriver marriage (5/12/2011 4:13:01 AM)

And an immigrant, of course. You don't see a lot of Republicans marrying one of them. He spent a lengthy career stopping American steroid freaks like Lou Ferrigno getting work before he went into politics...

I have dated a couple of conservatives in my life. One of them not so long ago. I can enjoy a conservative's company in small doses, but that is about it for me. I can understand a viewpoint, etc, but that does not mean I want to spend the rest of my life debating it, and there are some things that are political that come down to value systems. If someone has a very divergent value system, it ain't going to work sooner or later for most people. It is why I do not date Christians, perhaps that is closed minded of me, but who wants to spend the rest of their life with someone who is out to save them?

As far as Arnie and Maria, I thought her family were very tolerant of him, all things considered.

hlen5 -> RE: The unraveling of the Schwarzenegger-Shriver marriage (5/12/2011 10:08:01 AM)

What I found amazing was that she posted on Youtube.

Maybe this is a speed-bump in their marriage. Conventional wisdom says to delay any huge life decision so close to the loss of a family member.

Maybe in light of her father's death, she decided life is too short to settle for less than what she wanted.

Sanity -> RE: The unraveling of the Schwarzenegger-Shriver marriage (5/12/2011 11:07:43 AM)

You have a point to an extent. To the majority of leftists politics is all about personal destruction.

As their ideas are for the most part indefensible, personally attacking their political adversarys is all the average leftist has.

IMO  she has a better chance then he does at finding someone.

As to their marriage- I thought it was intriguing.

Just like a Kennedy to make up lies about something that probably didn't even happen. [8|] Thats what comes with being a spoiled bratty rich kid.[8|][8|][8|]

There you go again claiming yourself a lefty.  You fit your descriptions to a Tee.
