lockedaway -> RE: JOBS JOBS JOBS...and the GOP (5/12/2011 3:37:13 PM)

In both Reagan's term and in W's term there was a great deal more prosperity for the American public than under Obama's term.  There was lower unemployment and more job creation.  Obama is presiding over an endless failure and it is easy to draw the conclusion that is just the way he wants it.  If higher taxes are the answer, why don't we raise corporate taxes to 90%?

jlf1961 -> RE: JOBS JOBS JOBS...and the GOP (5/12/2011 3:43:52 PM)

I really hate to burst your bubble, but job growth under the Obama administration has been constant.

Furthermore, I would like to point out that the tax breaks for the rich that were meant to promote job growth has not promoted one job.

Finally, which party has presided over the presidency and congress every time investment and banking industries were deregulated?

Those deregulation movements lead DIRECTLY to the financial collapse of 2008, forcing President Bush and Congressman Boehner to push for TARP. John Boehner was so passionate about TARP he cried on the floor of the House of Representatives in his speech to convince fellow REPUBLICANS to vote for it.

Wow!  I hate to burst YOUR bubble, pal, but job growth has been flat since Obama took office and you are living during one of the most protracted periods of unemployment over 8% in all U.S. history.

On to your second point.  One of the things that lead to the sub-prime mortgage meltdown was the repeal of the Glass Steagall Act.  You must have missed it but that was done under Bill Clinton.  You also must have missed the 17 speeches/press releases issued by the Bush whitehouse that Fannie Mae was going bankrupt!  I'm no fan of Bush...he was a globalist just like O'scumbag, Clinton and HW Bush but your arguments are flat wrong.

SilverMark -> RE: JOBS JOBS JOBS...and the GOP (5/12/2011 3:48:16 PM)

So you are saying that W did a good job? That his tax cuts, his 2 wars, the financial crisis under his Presidency makes him a better President than Obama?

The ecomonic situation left by Clinton, the job market, the stock market and the budget situation of the government was MUCH better than either Bushes and even the vaunted Reagan.

If W is your idea of a good President you are perhaps the largest revisionist I have yet to see post.

Clinton's large budget surpluses also owe much to the Social Security tax on payrolls. Social Security taxes now bring in more than the cost of current benefits, and the "Social Security surplus" makes the total deficit or surplus figures look better than they would if Social Security wasn't counted. But even if we remove Social Security from the equation, there was a surplus of $1.9 billion in fiscal 1999 and $86.4 billion in fiscal 2000. So any way you count it, the federal budget was balanced and the deficit was erased, if only for a while.

Same web site you used.

Your boy W... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/28/bush-leaving-next-preside_n_115335.html Not a big huff post guy but, I am sure with time I can come up with MANY more

Oh...what a bunch of horse maneur!  Get a clue.

I do divorces.  I have a half dozen clients that are on unemployment and have been for months and will be until either the divorce is over or their unemployment runs out.  Do you have any idea how easy it is to apply to a company that you KNOW will not hire you?  Great...so you bring in a copy of your resume and some cover letters or the e mail responses where they turned you down for an interview and you keep collecting your check.  So naive...

Yeah, and they receive such big bucks.

What is it now?  About $200 a week?  And they are taxed on it.

That's truly living the good life off hard working people like you. [8|]

Look, if it were up to the Republicans and right wingers, there would be no social security, no medical coverage for the poor and elderly, no women's right to choose, a state sponsored religion, no unions, no worker's rights, no control on pollution (hey they like brown air), no research into alternative energy resources, no rights to due process and the police could torture confessions out of everyone.

That's right and if it were up to the left, we would all be on welfare, sitting around pissing and moaning because we don't have as much as the guy down the street.

lockedaway -> RE: JOBS JOBS JOBS...and the GOP (5/12/2011 3:55:58 PM)

Try "reading" my post before you respond to it.  I think I made my feelings about W very clear.

As far as his two wars are concerned, you mean the two wars were are still engaged in?  Are you going to add to it our worthless engagement in Lybia?

In looking at Clinton's balancing of the budget, do you also take into account his gutting of the U.S. armed forces and bring our military families to a level of destitution with more of the eligible for food stamps than at any point in our history?  Do you remember Rumsfeld saying "we fight the war with the army we have, not the army we wish we have."  Remember that?  You think Clinton did a good job?  I think the people on the USS Cole, in the twin towers or the members of the peace keeping force in Somalia think otherwise.

You think your liberalism works so well?  Why don't we bump up social security taxes and payroll taxes up to 60%?  By your logic, that should fix all of our problems and it CERTAINLY wouldn't result in millions of lay offs....right?????

lockedaway -> RE: JOBS JOBS JOBS...and the GOP (5/12/2011 3:57:23 PM)

BRAVO!!!! SALUT!!!  An unassailable post.

Nobody's going to stop you working if you want to and can find a job, however left wing they are. That barely even qualifies as a straw man.

Lucylastic -> RE: JOBS JOBS JOBS...and the GOP (5/12/2011 4:02:05 PM)

Ive never met a liberal who tried to stop people from working to go on welfare
what a bunch of cobblers
however, where are the jobs??? are you saying the cuts are not part of the repubs plan Boi???
why arent they focussing on what they said they wanted for americans???

SilverMark -> RE: JOBS JOBS JOBS...and the GOP (5/12/2011 4:03:40 PM)

The balanced budget caused the USS Cole and the first WTC attacks....new one...but great rationalization....not believable by me, but I am sure you could sell it to some.

You have yet to hear my thoughts on Social Security or payroll taxes so the inclusion of me as a severe leftist would be pretty far out there but, if it makes you feel better go ahead.

President Johnson did!!  Oh...I'm sorry, I'm drawing on history.  My apologies.  The cuts are part of the recovery.  If we have sufficient cuts along with other changes outlined earlier, we will stimulate the economy.  SilverMark or somebody said that Reagan's reduction of taxes didn't work and that is historically inaccurate.  Do you know who did it before Reagan?  John F. Kennedy.  "A rising tide lifts all boats."

Lucylastic -> RE: JOBS JOBS JOBS...and the GOP (5/12/2011 4:14:29 PM)

so all these 43 million on food stamps have to live with cuts to their stamps, their cut  healthcare rights and rising prices until the recovery starts?
seriously??
wow what an excellent plan
No Reaganomics lead you to where you are today
Up shits creek and just takin on more poop
8 million lost their jobs, when can they expect to be given a shit about?
oh thats right, its not your responsibility is it

You know, for someone who constantly complains of bigoted attitudes from the left that was an amazingly bigoted attitude.

Maybe you should remind us of Uncle Ronnie's tall tale about the welfare queen in the Cadillac.

Youre certainly responding like a "severe leftist" today, including their nasty habit of putting words into other people's mouths. He said nothing about the (almost) balanced budget CAUSING the Cole and WTC attacks.

With a drastically reduced corporate tax rate and the EPA stripped of powers it was never actually intended to have, recovery would be virtually immediate. We wouldnt need the endless extensions of unemployment benefits.

I did, before I responded. Nothing there says that a balanced budget did anything. Clinton sucked at far more than his bogus budget balancing.

SilverMark -> RE: JOBS JOBS JOBS...and the GOP (5/12/2011 4:48:44 PM)

You're missing the point Will but, that's ok.

It was a long and really boring part of the thread that has run out of steam.

You are wrong about Clinton but, that is a subject for another thread somewhere.
