I go sit by the river. I like to watch the water flowing by carrying little bits of debris. And the ducks, I like watching the ducks too.

I'm either hiking, skiing or at the beach.
If indoors, reading on the couch.

These days my comfy place is wherever I happen to be. It's not just that my aura is so mellow and my karma so clean...it's also that between my Kindle and my notebook I can commune with everything from my Charlie Parker albums to my favorite Herzog films to Whitman's poetry to old episodes of Magnum PI any time I want. I've always considered myself an entirety, a whole world unto myself, and with portable media my protective layer of solipsism can become airtight at the drop of a hat--there's nothing more comfy for me than being a microcosm hermetically sealed inside myself.

Back when I ritualized relaxation geographically though I never knew a better place than the chapel at my school. Even as a 15 year old I wasn't too religious mind you but we had one of those great old chapels the Jesuits designed. The campus of my school was built on an Indian graveyard (no lie) and there were still headstones out back where missionaries used to bury kids (no lie!) which added to the ambiance. The chapel itself was gorgeous and grotesque and dead quiet all the time. If you've ever chilled in an oldschool Jesuit church you know what I'm talking about. There are so many gargoyles and scenes from the classics and so many Renaissance era tributes that functionally you can't really tell whether you're in a Christian church or a shrine to Bacchus. It was beautiful and eerie and sad and quiet and cold and the carpet was rich and the stonework was crisp and immaculate and I rarely felt more mellow or more relaxed than soaking all of it in sitting quietly like the Buddha in the middle of a pew at dusk. This even worked the time my dad had a meeting and forgot to pick me up from play practice!

I knew I was going to regret not taking some shots while we were out today.  I'll see what I can do about getting some from the window tomorrow and getting them posted in one place or another.

Inside my little place so far I love my bedroom area. The bed is up against the wall that is bookcases from the level of the bed to the ceiling. I'm so happy when I have books around me. I'm hoping to the the living room area fixed up tomorrow & then I will have someplace to sit & read.

Outside my home, it's always water. When I lived in San Francisco, I took the bus to the beach every night after work. I'd sit on a rock & watch the water until the sun went down. And I'd watch the pelicans coming home from a long day of fishing. That sort of thing just replenishes my soul.

depending on what mood i'm in to start with depends on what is a comfort to me. it could be sat out in the garden with friends having a laugh. going out riding, going for a walk with the dogs, sitting on the sofa chatting to my playpartner, being in bed or chatting to my son. i've been known to be sat in a stable at silly o'clock at night with the horses.

it could be going to waterstones and sitting in the cafe with a huge cup of coffee while i read my book.

or, like i've just been, spending time with the man, having loads of sex does wonderful things for my comfort levels. all the time i spend with him is comfort, like taking a deep breath.

i spend alot of time on my own and that is great too, no matter where i am.

My comfy place is anywhere where I have a guitar in my hands.

My home is my haven. It was chosen and has been furnished to be comfortable and relaxing with plenty of room for his hobbies and my cooking fetish.

Other than my home, the only other place I can really relax is out in nature. In the woods (I'm a tree nut), by the water, cooking around the campfire -- that's heaven to me.

We are both people who need to get out into nature on a regular basis for a spiritual recharge.
