FR I've thought of this, I mean even before coming to CM. One thing I seemed to notice was more drastic changes in short periods of time. I said " Remember the days when it got a little warmer every day in the spring and a little cooler every day in the fall ? ". Maybe I'm wrong but it certainly seemed that way. It seems now one day you can have a cookout and even get a tan or burn, then the next day you are shoveling snow. It's not so much that it never happened before, it just seems like it happens more. I remembr as a kid, it was warm and raining on Christmas eve. This was a very long time ago, and being the exception it was something noteworthy. Then on Jan. 3rd 1995 it was extremely cold. My supplemental heater (a gas ventless infrared space heater) was cranked up and I went to work. Then the call came in. I come home to find about a fifth of the house missing. Well, I rode herd on the contractor during the repairs, but in the beginning it was a bunch of carpentry to rebuild the roof etc., and then the new roof. During that time the insurance would've gladly paid for me to get a motel room or whatever, but I didn't really want that. So I went to Florida for a week or so, maybe like nine days ? Not sure. But it was mid January and it was about 60F out. The neighbors were out, it was like spring. I joked with the neighbors that I had brought that fair weather with me and they owed me. It was also noteworthy. Now again in the middle of May it's cold again (now). It's not frigid, it's running around 40F. but remember in a couple of weeks it will be June. Now the hard part is determining how much of this is subjective. Do I notice it more because of age ? I suppose it's possible, but now that you mention it........ Now comes that I seem to have noticed that sunlight is more intense. Is it ? In the past we never even considered sunscreen, we got a burn a couple times a year and then it wasn't a problem anymore. Now they're saying that a sunscreen is very important to prevent skin cancer. What ? It wasn't like that before. I never even considered sunglasses either back then. Now the conclusions of myself and quite a few others is that there never was an ozone "layer". It is an ozone belt. The UV protection is not as important near the poles, never was because of the angle of incidence of sunlight. It means a whole lot more nearer to the equator, so that kinda makes sense. But is the ozone depleted ? I would tend to think so. And if what I read about CFCs is true, it's too late because the destruction of the ozone does not deplete the CFCs, they are like a catalyst, or a reagent. They come out of the reaction to operate in another similar reaction, again and again. If this is true, it's no wonder that they do not publicize it. Why bother ? If true it simply means that future generations will always need sunscreen and sunglasses, things like that. If they keep quiet, it will happen so gradually nobody will take notice. However, if the sun's rays are not as effectively filtered and diffused as they were in the past, this should most likely result in more uneven heting of the ecosphere. If anything can make drastic changes in the weather more common, that certainly seems to be one of those factors. I still say though, that this is something that is going to be hard to discern whether it is due to reality, or our perception. This is not a gradual global cooling or warming to which I refer, I mean the almost "bipolar" behavior of the local weather. Now that you mention it that is.......... T^T
