Imagine that...

Mezrem -> RE: trump-not-running-for-president? (5/16/2011 10:16:53 AM)

There was a doubt this would happen?

juliaoceania -> RE: trump-not-running-for-president? (5/16/2011 10:24:53 AM)

I do not think his ego could handle it.....His ego is even larger than his comb over. Can you imagine Trump having stylists and handlers who would be helping him polish up his image to be presidential? He is a narcissist, he cannot handle criticism of any sort, and he would not be able to listen to assessments of his performance from aids who would have the job of making him electable.

I never truly believed he would stay in the race. He just couldn't even begin to give a shit enough what other people think to bother with it.

I don't think his ego could handle his "image" being dug into.

DarkSteven -> RE: trump-not-running-for-president? (5/16/2011 10:56:56 AM)

He had a bad weekend.  He got skewered at the WH Correspondents' Dinner and didn't like it one bit.  And Obama's announcement of OBL's death was juxtaposed over The Celebrity Apprentice.  Note that he said he's not going away and will continue to criticize US policy as long as the media will print him.

True to style, he complimented himself on his accomplishments to date and let us know he has plenty of value left to contribute.  And no kind of endorsement of any of the survivors.

By my count - Christie, Barbour, Huckabee, and now Trump.  The field is winnowing.

joether -> RE: trump-not-running-for-president? (5/16/2011 1:16:38 PM)

I have the impression it wasn't so much his ego getting bashed in every form; but rather the accounting books. When you start running for the Office of the President, your financial history becomes a matter of record. We don't want our President to suddenly gain millions of dollars from shadowy people and organizations; but rather an honest and open candidate. Mr. Trump had been dogged for years by people and organizations to 'see the books', and as a presidential candidate he would have been forced to do it finally.

Siding with the lunatic fringe didn't help him one bit. After the President released his birth certificate, Mr. Trump then tried to attack him on his grades before and during college. How many students do you know that enter Harvard with less then 'B' grades? Much less graduate magna cum laude? AND, was the editor of the Harvard Law Review? Mr. Trump picked the wrong guy to attack on education. He would have had a considerably easier time with Mr. G. W. Bush....

You still can.

The Donald won't ever allow himself to be out of the limelight.

But it was the funniest thing I've ever seen watching him get hammered by Obama and Seth Myers.

All one need do is go back to a few decades and follow the run-up to GOP primaries when there is a democratic incumbent. They throw a few non-candidates under the bus after some brief controversies raised concerning the  incumbent. They also do this deal where they'll let the talk radio BS artists go long for one candidate like they did with Mit Romney last time around and they sacrificed his sorry ass as soon as the two guys they considered more reliable started showing good numbers in the primaries, namely McCain and Huckabee. Huckabee knows all too well he got thrown under the bus. Which is why he announced early that he isn't spending a dime. My gut feeling is that the road kill this time around might just be Michele Backmann since she's already doing an internet outcall service.  Trying to turn tricks for $50 and $100 as our babe-a-licious friend Lucylastic told us about yesterday.
