hey sunny, its a web server firewall thingy, so depending on how your network is set up it may not be on your computer at all. to many possibilities to give concrete advice, but one of these links might be helpful.

Hey thanks for trying, but nope. I had the same list more or less, and there's really no answer in the answers. "Uninstall" the program, they say... yep, I would love to. How can I find it? I actually am wondering if it is from the wireless internet... *sigh* ah well... who needs to read the newspaper anyway, right?

ETA: It just showed up yesterday, and I know that my computer did an update in the last day or so. I thought maybe it was downloaded and I didn't realize.

mnottertail -> RE: is windows a virus? (5/18/2011 6:55:17 AM)

go to comodo internet security, free download, update and blah blah blah install and it will wipe that little bastard out of there.

Can you reset it to a back-up point from one week ago?

webknight is an iis service, so it is installed on whatever machine is hosting your webserver. if you aren't running a web server, just kill the iis. if you are, then look on that computer.

I dunno man, I've NEVER needed to do shit for an optical drive to work under Linux. All the drivers are just built in. If it's on the Hardware Compatibility List, it Just Works.

Lucylastic -> RE: is windows a virus? (5/18/2011 8:59:38 AM)

I dont use linux altho I have thought about it, and Ubuntu
but it just happened to me after I updated something, Device manager said my cdrom.sys file was corrupt, I reinstallled, did a repair, and still nothing, so I changed the registry values and it works just fine.
but windows never surprises me as to just how badly it can fuck with you.

farglebargle -> RE: is windows a virus? (5/18/2011 9:19:24 AM)

The registry was one seriously fucked up idea. Good thing they never got that damned database based filesystem out the door....

I was using a pc for years, then I got vista, now I have a macbook pro and I am amazed, the thing just does what it is told to do, no fucking around, it just works and that is all I want a computer to do, work when it's meant to. Of course though, the macbook pro, is a pretty machine.

If it wasn't for my experiences with vista, I would have stayed with pc, but the impression I got with vista, was they just chucked the thing out to the masses untested, to me, it showed microsoft's contempt of it's loyal customers, enough for them to quickly bang out another OS with much publicity, but with me, the damage was done.

Hey FargleBargle perhaps you'd like to weigh in for a moment and explain their options

farglebargle -> RE: is windows a virus? (5/18/2011 12:24:02 PM)

My use case is non-standard. Although let me offer this. 99% of the times Google Docs costs nothing and produces a PDF which is just as good a PDF as 149$ worth of Microsoft Office offers...

I can see a new thread brewing in the Bondage Gear and Apparel Forum "Ordering Your sub To Migrate To Linux"... I nominate my esteemed colleague from Albany

Have you ever learned and used DOS?

I will take Windows, thanks so much.

The old joke we used to tell is "Windows is a shell, and DOS is a boot-sector virus!"

Termyn8or -> RE: is windows a virus? (5/18/2011 7:09:07 PM)

Well, if you think about it .........

If Windows is more than a DOS shell, how come certain thigs must be done from the command line ?

Did the egg become the chicken, and if so, do you care ?
