Well, you have just got to hand it to those Israelis. Such talented people! Why even their ethnic cleansing is so much better, so much more civilised than anyone else's:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/may/11/israel-palestinians-residency-rights

See what I mean? 140, 000 of nasty evil Palestinians kicked out of their homes for an eternity without using a single bullet, or a concentration camp. All done administratively with the stroke of a pen. They even pay they own way - just think of the savings on the transport costs alone!

Such efficiency is a marvel isn't it? [8|]

LMAO. Nice spin. How the fuck do you think they got those residency rights in the first place?

Please Wilbur, please try to use your brain. I know you have one somewhere (contrary to rumour)

They got their residency rights by being born there.

I know it was terribly bad judgement on their behalf, but newly born infants are not gifted at making decisions about where they get born.

It's Wannsee. I've been there. And I sat afterwards in the garden and wept.

I've been to Dachau. I was too numb to weep.
As have I. 1987. And that was my reaction as well. I went to Wannsee in 2003. That's when the horror really sank in.

This is what I see when I think of Dachau.

Try to use what few brain cells you may have left. You do know there was a war, right? You do know who won that war right? You do know that that Israel didnt have to recognize a fucking soul as a resident after winning that war, right?

Wilbur, people have a right to live in their birthplace. Especially if their family has been living there for generations.

It is a war crime for one side in a war to deport or evict the civilian population from land they have acquired in a war. Most people call that 'ethnic cleansing' nowadays. There isn't a right to throw out the locals. The 'right' you are asserting doesn't exist. It is a war crime. There is no right to 'ethnic cleansing' by any one any where any time. The 'right' you are asserting doesn't exist. It is a war crime.

WantsOfTheFlesh -> RE: Given o'dumbo's latest blather (5/19/2011 9:15:31 PM)

From the Guardian article:
"Following the annexation of east Jerusalem, Israel distributed identity cards giving residency status – not citizenship – to Palestinians living in the city. They were permitted to apply for Israeli citizenship, but the vast majority refused on political grounds.

However, if they leave the city for more than seven years, their east Jerusalem residency rights are revoked. Israeli citizens are allowed to leave indefinitely without penalty."

They were entitled to apply for citizenship but chose not to. In most countries as far as I know residency is not permanent.

You meant to say It is a W-A-R-C-R-I-M-E if Israel does it.

And its very convenient to change the definition of ethnic cleansiing to suit your biases. Sorry, words have meaing, and you (and the Guardian) dont have the power to change it.

No, email, after he released Leaving Beirut regarding his extradordinary naivete regarding the ME based on how one Arab family treated him when he was 17.

Muslims and Jews and blacks and whites are human beings - all I know is we are all human beings and we should be treated the same way.

A few posts ago, you were waffling on about Israel's 'right' to deport 140,000 Jerusalem and West Bank born Palestinians from their homes forever, apparently blissfully unaware that you were advocating a war crime - a clear unambiguous contravention of the Geneva Conventions.

Can I suggest you have a little think about what "extradordinary naivete" might mean?

While you are at it, you might also have a little think about this:
Israel currently rejects "a Palestinian State in 'Judea' and 'Samaria' ie. the West Bank. So no two-State solution.
Israel rejects a one-State solution. The demographics mean that Israel will no longer be a Jewish State.

That leaves two possible options:
(a) indefinite continuation of status quo (which for Israel, will entail, annexation of the West Bank, Gaza and Fortress Israel extending from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean with a permanent population of millions of disaffected angry Palestinians as second class citizens under military rule. It will also mean a state of permanent antagonism with all its neighbours); and/or
(b) a military solution (with much the same consequences, though with a lot more dead Palestinians. Or perhaps out and out genocide of the Pals) .

Should the US taxpayer continue to arm and finance a State that is going to indefinitely continue waging war on its neighbours, annexing their territory and de-stabilising the entire region?

What will the US taxpayer get for their $ apart from hatred and war from 1/4 of the world's (c1.5 billion) population for the sake of a penny ante resourceless State of approx 7 million people? How many terrorists will this intolerable state of affairs produce? How many more US soldiers will die in places like Iraq or Afghanistan in wars that are in part consequences of Israeli belligerence and US arming and financing of same? How many US civilians?

In short when will the price of propping up Israel get too high? Because unless either a just and lasting one- or two-State solution is brought about, the above is the inevitable future.

jlf1961 -> RE: Given o'dumbo's latest blather (5/20/2011 12:55:02 AM)

Tweakabell, may I point out that Israel is doing nothing that the United States did for close to two hundred years, except that Israel has not made it illegal for someone to speak in their native tongue or forced Palestinian children into schools to teach them to be something other than what they are.

Not being American, I can't say I'm too sure what you are referring to jlf1961 (native Americans perhaps?).

Are you suggesting that because the USA did something, that makes it automatically right? If so ... should we talk about slavery, or say, segregation in the South for a minute or two ....?

Every country has a past with a few black spots (mine included). We're not under any obligation today to repeat the mistakes of the past as far as I know. And I'm sure you aren't suggesting that it's OK for Israel today to treat the Palestinians the same way as slaves or blacks were treated in the past in the USA.

I would never advocate that any one any where treat any one else the way white Australians treated the indigenous people here. In fact I would be implacably opposed to it.

Wrong, moron. Learn the fucking definition of "deportation"

There might have been some talk about deporting all of the jews early on, but that's all it ever was: talk.

Yeah he sort of comes across as similar to so many others of his generation that hardly have had a fresh original thought since 1968. I know you like his stuff a lot but might consider that to be fair judgement of his values. [;)] You probably know already but recently he wrote a surprisingly extreme article in the Guardian advocating all artists boycott Israel. It was funny cause he said there was a great response from his fans there when he moved his last concert there to some co-operative village in 2006 but was sad to see peace hadn't been found since that cataclysmic event [:D] so now he wants to boycott although apparently that isn't an attack on Israel! Jeff is referring to what happened to Native Americans in the US.

"Illegal" is the wrong word, but the Indians were pushed into schools designed to assimilate them.  Within those schools, they were required to speak in English only.
