OK, This was brought up before but not quite this way. We are in financial trouble here. Anyone who doubts that needs their head examined or is filthy rich.

But I put the middle option in for those who's hearts are charitable but see that we are in no position to be giving away money right now. That means I mean now. Not in the future or the past.

And I noted a pie chart in another thread that indicates that Iraq gets alot of aid. Well we bombed the shit out of them. We made the mess and cleaning it up wrecked the place. But feel free to vote no if you think we should've just bombed and left them to starve or whatever.

You did not ask the right question for me in your poll... which is, "Are you for the current way that foreign aid is distributed and the political agenda foreign aid supports"

FR

It's only about $30 billion. If everyone paid taxes that would be close to $100 each. Last time I threw $100 down a shithole it was at a poker game on a losing night, and I actually burned the last twenty as I stepped out.

If you want to buy friends, for a hundred bucks I'll do alot more for you than people in foreign countries.

The question stands.

I do IF we had the money to spare. So I picked the middle option. If we were just rolling in dough, had surplus money and had more than we would ever need I would be all in favor of foreign aid. But you have to save yourself before you can save anyone else. We are trillions of dollars in debt...WE DON'T HAVE ANY MONEY TO GIVE AWAY. and to answer whether or not we should have just left Iraq a mess? Yes we should have. Its war. War is hell. You're supposed to bomb the shit out of the other side. And as far as helping them rebuild? Of course we would be glad to help...as soon as we pay off our debts.

Term, I don't mind if individuals give their own money for this but I just don't want my govt doing it, "for me!"
There is so much corruption and graft involved in it starting with the lawyers and lobbyists on K Street in D.C.

Sometimes you have to do both. Haiti is a good example. Do we jump in and help...or have boatloads of Haitians washing ashore?

A little prevention.

Had we done that with TB and AIDS globally in the 80s, they wouldn't be the crisis they often are today.

Music, neither, we have the U.S. Coast Guard do it's job and intercept them at sea and return them to Haiti like we did when I was in the CG.
Letting our govt. do foreign aid "for" us is like having someone else grab your checkbook and start writing checks to people.
Can you imagine a "company" being hired by a foreign govt. to "lobby" congress to get taxpayer dollars and then being paid $20 M, $50M, or $100M depending on how much they wrested out of the hands of taxpayers?
Take a ride through the Va. suburbs of D.C. and look at the mansions and Mercedes Benz "S" class vehicles in the drivways some sat afternoon! Of course they don't want to end "foreign aid", there's too many people making too much money from it!
And that's just the tip of the iceburg.

popeye, you're missing the point---that costs money.

Preventing the problem was cheaper.

Music, what "problem?"
We're paying the Coast Guard anyway.
Look at some of the other things our govt has done "for" us, put us $14.3 Trillion in debt, allowing those "free-trade" deals that have cost us millions of high-paying manufacturing jobs, and a thousand other bad things.
Oblunder is clearly more interested in the welfare of people in foreign countries, let all the people being thrown off the unemployment rolls in the U.S. fend for themselves. I wonder what the unemployment rate will be next year?
There have to be limits on what our government can do and "foreign aid" shouldn't even be on the "do" list.
We elect our govt. to serve us not to serve foreign countries or foreign nationals.

So since they can't secure the borders we have to give people money to stay out ?

popeye, obviously, I'm talking about preventing a mass panic migration, not picking up a boat here and there.

And surely you're aware foreign aid didn't start with this administration, right? And that Bush's spending increased it from $15 billion in 2001 to $23 billion 2006?

You're an idiot.

We helped stabilize the situation. Our military is particularly good at that....and as popeye would say, we're paying them anyway.

Music, have you ever been to Haiti? Where are they going to get the wood to build boats?
The Coast Guard is well equipped to prevent "mass migrations" at sea. How about a "mass panic" from Mexico? Could or even would Oblunder be capable of handling that?
And yes I'm aware of the "foreign aid" numbers and Bush and I wasn't in favor of it then either!
Wasn't it Baby Doc Duvalier who was shuttled off to France under Clinton with $267 Million U.S. dollars? I wonder where that money came from?

Why does that sound so much like one of those mob protection plans? You know where businesses pay the mob not to break into and vandalize their establishments. Hey Term- send me money and I promise not to break into your house!

"You're an idiot."

Thank you. And when you go down remember that. And remember that I'm too stupid. Unless your net worth is in eight figures you are going down.

Or you can get your money the fuck out of the country. Merc did, is he stupid ?

Well if you mean US dollars it's obvious, they came from China. Everything comes from China almost. Originally I meant that to be amusing, but after thinking about it, it DID come from China. Remember they scammed us out of it with their fucking junk. So they loan it back.

SURE, the system works just fine. You know, after while it's not hard to figure out who are the working Men (and Women) here and who are the suits.
