Status: offline 		My life is so f'ed up right now I often wish I could go back in time and do some things differently.  The big question is how far back and what things along the way would I change.  I guess I would go back to about the age of 13 or 14.  I would try to get better grades in school, be more athletic, try to have more and different friends than before.  I am 99.999999999 % sure I wouldn't have gotten married at 19.  I know I would have gone into a different field in the Army. If married I would have held off being a pappa of twins at 20 for a few more years.  There are more things I would change but enough about me.  How about you?  Or are you so perfect that you wouldn't want to change anything?

Status: offline 		If you are going to live your life again you have to do everything differently if not you'll fall into the same patterns and become the same person. I don't think there is a single event which defines us that is just a romantic notion. I am but a mere victim of destiny thrown ashore by the waves of determinism etc etc.

I can't think of any choices I've had to make there always seemed to be only the one option at any given time. I was never going to play the glockenspiel for a living. What is that musical wooden fish thing with the scales called?

Status: offline 		To the OP: Of course there are things I'd like to change. And if I could, I'd go back in time to change things too, as long as I had the knowledge I have now. That's the catch. ;)

But, I cannot change the past and I cannot go back in time, so I don't think about it much and just move forward. I want to enjoy life now and make the future better than the past. Dwelling on the negatives is never a good thing.

Status: offline 		I would have changed not moving here to Allentown and buying this house. I would have finished college and I would have done more to make my daughter's life a little better.

Let me explain it to you differently since you misinterpreted my post.

Event "A" happened. It was a single event. If event "A" had not happened, I would be a different person today than I would have been if event "A" had not happened. And yes I can say that for a certainty.

I can say the same thing about event "B" and "C" and so on.

That's the end of it for me. You have your opinion, and I have my certainty.

Status: offline 		You can believe you'd be a different person if you failed to catch the train at this time or if you'd got hit by a bus crossing the road but since you aren't living that other life you can't know that just believe it.

Me?? Perfect?? So freaking far from it I can't even begin to describe it to you. Currently my life feels so very fucked up the things I'm considering doing are against TOS for me to describe them to you....
Having said that however, except for one thing I really wouldn't change most things. Everything I have gone through makes me the person I am today... The horrible, the awful, the evil, the bad, the ordinary, the mundane, the regular, the good, the great, the awesome....all of it!!
The only thing that I would change is that I would have demanded someone put me on a replacement medication after my thyroid was removed so that I did not gain 160 pounds.  Although truth is that too has taught me something about myself. So, in the end I should probably stick to my gut answer which is no....I wouldn't.

You know, I've asked a dear friend, just yesterday, "Would you believe 5 years ago, that I would be planning what I am, with who I am, for the reasons I am?"

Life is a strange and wondrous thing.

There are bumps, even a few mountains, but honestly, I am content, I am looking forward, how could I do that without all that lies in the past?

But truthfully, no. I like who and where I am now. I am far from perfect and will continue to grow and change as life marches on. But the shit that got me this far, regardless of how fucked up, got me here. And here is pretty good.(here being, the person I am right now and the life I have right now...)

Long time ago, I lived in California and played that Power Ball thing (y'all see this coming, right?).  I had significant numbers that I played every blessed week for something like seven months.  Except on that last night.  I was so very tired, and it was late at night when I got off work and raining and...

How did you guess that all of my numbers came up, including the Power Ball one?  Nobody won.  13 million rolled over into the following week's pot.

A girlfriend knew all of my numbers, and I had jokingly promised to pay off her new vehicle if I ever hit it big time.  Yes, she phoned, all excited.  After I finally got her to believe me that I wasn't teasing her, we both ended up crying our eyes out. 

The problem with going back in time to make myself buy that ticket is that I would never have had my son.  I could never seriously wish to change anything in my past because of him, but on the other hand, I can never look at those lottery powerball type numbers thingies without gnashing my teeth. 

Even after more than 22 years.  No, I don't play the lottery anymore.  That was a once in a lifetime chance and I blew it.

However if I got sent back in time against my will and had to redo my life up to this point, I'd change absolutely everything.
