it was so funny I was watching every body hates Chris, and the little girl on the show was trying to get her mom to agree to let her wear clip on hoop earings, and the mom said no an the girls like all my friends are wearing them, and the mom replies back with, if all your friends were getting butt whoopings would you want one too?

when I used to ask my daughter "If all your friends were jumping off a cliff would you too?"

Her response was "Yes, because I would want to be with my friends"  [8|]

LOL...I'm the parent who your kids always wished you were. I don't like rules, so had as few as possible when my kids were growing up. My kids were the one's your kids whined to you about...."But Emma's Dad lets her...." [:D]

I was raised by a man for whom the "Everyone else gets to do it" argument generated an automatic NO!!! He taught me to celebrate being unique. I loved him for it.

When kids in the childrens homes I worked in tried to come up with that line "but s/he gets this" I used to be rather blunt with just saying "and you don't" with the undertone of "get over it/suck it up buttercup"....they learned fast not to bother anymore trying that route again [:D]

I think that this is my favorite reply.

I never understood as a child what jumping off of a cliff (an unlikely activity) had to do with riding my bike somewhere.

THIS reply makes so much more sense to me.

Of course I am strange.

Whenever I used that line on my Mum, she'd tell me to go live with them if I really wanted to do/have whatever it was i was whining about.
