Brain -> May 21 Judgment Day Believers React To Being Alive On May 22 (5/22/2011 10:02:34 PM)

Some people are ridiculous and I guess other people are hopeless. If anybody else did this they would be facing criminal charges for fraud but this guy get a pass hiding behind religion.

May 21 'Judgment Day' Believers React To Being Alive On May 22
by Jaweed Kaleem

Like many of those convinced of the Rapture was pending, Ramsey quit his job, donated "a couple thousand" to Harold Camping's Family Radio network and convinced family members to join him to spread news of the Rapture on Manhattan streets. He has to find a new job. So does his mother. His 19-year-old brother, who had quit high school the year prior ("It's pointless to graduate," the brother had said), is thinking of re-enrolling or finding employment.

Lombardi said he is going back to work -- he owns a construction business -- and said he has "no regrets." He added, "I'm not disappointed. I'm still living today." He believes Camping and others must have read the Bible incorrectly.

Camping, who told The Huffington Post last week that May 21 was "no laughing matter," had refused to discuss what he would do with donations if the day passed without event.

Followers like Ramsey and Lombardi said they had few hard feelings toward Camping and still agreed with some of the self-taught preacher's views, such as one that says all churches and denominations have been corrupted.

John Ramsey, 25, holds pamphlets promoting May 21 at 'Judgment Day.' The day passed without event, and now a dejected Ramsey says he faces a "mixed bag."

I was so disappointed the rapture didn't happen. I took my mom out to lunch today and I expressed this disappointment. You see my brother, her son, is a Christian who believes that the rapture will happen one day...

Over lunch I said to her...
"You know, I had different plans for today other than taking you to lunch" She asked me what they were and I said

"I had intended to go over to As house and to split his shit up amongst all of us... you know, my son can have his car, you get some of his furniture, and I was going to take his house"

She laughed really hard.

Okay. . . some folks believed a hoax, it has been reveled as such. . . perhaps they should just be left to learn about being more skeptical.

What is the problem?

Sorry. . . you were an idiot does not get special favors from me. I figure that, you are an idiot, yet you live to learn another day, is the best mercy that you can hope for.

popeye1250 -> RE: May 21 Judgment Day Believers React To Being Alive On May 22 (5/22/2011 10:21:04 PM)

I don't think the word "rapture" appears in thr bible.

juliaoceania -> RE: May 21 Judgment Day Believers React To Being Alive On May 22 (5/22/2011 10:25:22 PM)

It doesn't, but neither does the word "trinity"

Neither does the word "transfiguration"

But all three have passages that refer to them. Some people tend to think of all three as symbolic descriptions, some choose to interpret those passages literally. The interpretation is how the terms were derived.

Ya know, if Camping was forced to give the money back based upon his "predictions" he may think twice before pulling this stunt again.

juliaoceania -> RE: May 21 Judgment Day Believers React To Being Alive On May 22 (5/22/2011 10:53:04 PM)

Why are people listening?

I never once feared the rapture was going to happen. Even if you believe the bible it tells you no one knows the exact day or time of the messiah's return

atursvcMaam -> RE: May 21 Judgment Day Believers React To Being Alive On May 22 (5/22/2011 10:56:34 PM)

Is anyone certain that it did not happen and simply that those who thought that they would ascend were not the ones taken, and that the bells and whistles did not occur?

tazzygirl -> RE: May 21 Judgment Day Believers React To Being Alive On May 22 (5/22/2011 10:58:07 PM)

Noticed anyone missing? Any down planes? Any massive car crashes? Any wails of children being gone?

atursvcMaam -> RE: May 21 Judgment Day Believers React To Being Alive On May 22 (5/22/2011 11:10:22 PM)

Don't you think a God that could arrange the one day departure of an unspecified number of individuals could not accomodate or conceal such details. For goodness sake, a SciFi scriptwriter can take care of that kind of issue (The Day the Earth Stood Still (original version)) made sure that traffic, air flights and hospitals were not put at risk from the alien's demonstration.
Perhaps families were raptured together as most of the joy of rapture would be lost if families were broken up.

tazzygirl -> RE: May 21 Judgment Day Believers React To Being Alive On May 22 (5/22/2011 11:12:07 PM)

~sighs~

After the rapture, unless I am missing my guess, the 7 years of tribulation begins. 7 years of hardship and woe. Do you really think "God" would call his people up and make it easier for those he "left behind"?

actually Camping presented a 5 month period of Tribulation. I don't really believe in a vindictive God. You, however, are probably correct. If you plan to face 7 years of tribulation you probably will. As a general rule you have the option of making your days be pleasant or unpleasant. Occasionally those around you try to influence you one way or the other, but he choice is generally your own.

Does that make it easier to travel than the "Straight and Narrow" path to heaven? That doesn't seem quite fair.

I dont know if you are a believer. But I am not trying to criticize what you do believe in. Years ago, I read the series "Left Behind". Quite interesting, even though it is a work of fiction.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left_Behind offers a great overview.

crazyml -> RE: May 21 Judgment Day Believers React To Being Alive On May 22 (5/22/2011 11:27:47 PM)

Nor does "marmoset".

That's always bothered me.

Be glad im not close enough to "whap" you for that, crazy.. lol

Way back in the 5th grade, I wrote a short story about a doomed submarine mission. That won me a box of "Goober Peas" (peanuts w/chocolate; "goobers" is a Southernism for those also reading the "new Phrases" thread; interesting because this was in Rochester NY). (incidently, I was accused of not being the author by several of my intellectual inferiors. That made me censor myself so that I would henceforth "fit in" with the envious little pricks, who, I do believe, grew up to be the Dick Cheneys and GWBs of the nation).

My point is that I could have written something way better than the "Left Behind" series even back then. My ex had some of that tripe laying around. The stilted prose and the non-existent character development are laughable. A tragic waste of perfectly good trees.
