And encouraged even. We're just a buncha folks who are trying to get into better shape & possibly lose some weight along the way. Tell us about yourself.....

Well I started lifting again last year. Not a stranger to weights but this is the first time I am putting a bodybuilding diet together with it. When I joined my gym in Feb I was at about 31% bodyfat. I went from 290 pounds to 332 pounds. I have added a lot of muscle in the past four months and some fat along with it. Last week I started cutting my calories back. From 4220 to 2330. So far I have dropped about 10 pounds. But most of that is just water. My goal isn't a certain weight, just to get down to about 10% bodyfat.

As far as weights are concerned I want to be able to curl 250 pounds, deadlift 600 pounds, squat 500 pounds, bench 400 pounds and military press 300 pounds.

Dayyyyyyum!!!!

I rec'd my DVD last night but it was AFTER I did a Step Aerobics class & I just wanted to shower & eat some brown rice so that's what I did.  I'll start the HHA tonight!

Thank you barelynangel, I will look into the power yoga. I have to find a new doctor since I moved and I'd like to try and do some simply aerobics until I can find the right one. My previous doctor didn't think PT would work for me, so have to see what the new one thinks.

Kick ass Blacksword -- looking at body fat percentage is a good thing to concentrate on especially with guys as they tend to build muscle while they lose fat.  Congrats on your success

I started the HHA workout on Tues & love it but I must admit to NOT being sore.  I even went out power walking afterward in this extreme heat.  I did it again last night right after a circuit training class & squeezed my abs even hard.  I felt the burn alot more, kept up w/the movements more easily but still no soreness today

You can't always use soreness to guage a workout. If you do a lot of stretching it will lessen your soreness the next day. But you can always find ways to increase the intensity if you like being sore. Sounds like you had a good workout.

I just did my leg workout yesterday. You can have my extra soreness if you like.

bench press 8x135, bp 2x250. squats 8x135, 5x225,10x135, 10x225, 10x250. leg press 10x180, 10x360, 12x540, 10x540. leg curl 10x80, 10x125, 10x110, 10x80. deadlift 7x135, 10x225, 8x275, 8x185. calf raise 30x170, 30x250, 30x310. And 45 min on a treadmill.

It's a deal!

Tonight I have "Body Sculpting" then I'll go home & do my HHA then a walk in the 101 degree weather.  I love the heat when it comes to exercising!  Outside only, inside heat is too stuffy & stinky

**Eta, my goal is to lose 20lbs by Aug. 31, 2011 so I told my girl only pack fruits & veggies for my snacks throughout the day.  Tomorrow we're going to a Farmer's Market to stock up on fresher ones that offered by grocery stores**

Take you some water along. We don't want you dropping halfway through your walk. Damn that's a lot to drop in a month. You're going to be working your butt off.

I'm going to get a swim in at the hotel pool tonight. It's an Olympic size pool, so should be fun. I'm gonna shoot for getting rid of 10-15 pounds by the end of August.

I drink a gallon of water (give or take 16oz) a day & always take a bottle with me when I'm out walking.  Learned that the HARD way when I was training for a marathon in Oct.

Lucky girl. Nothing beats swimming for enjoyment while burning a bunch of calories. Swimming will knock that 15 pounds right off you.

The pain is getting under better control now, so I'm moving a lot more. One of the side effects of both of my new meds is a lack of appetite, so I'm eating a lot less. Many times my dinner consists of snap peas dipped in hummus. I've done that a lot in the past, but I'm noticing that now I'm not eating nearly as much of the hummus. I think my biggest challenge is getting enough carbs in me. I don't have bread in the house anymore. I do eat cereal at least once, sometimes twice a day, but a small amount each time.

I have plans to make a big ol' crockpot of I Don't Know with rice as the carb. I have some very lean pork chops in the freezer, so instead of the ground meat that I usually put in one of these, I'll cube those to put in.

I made a huge error in judgment the other day & thought that I could carry a fairly light weight box down a short flight of stairs & across the street to the car. The next day the pain level was up double what it had been. So no more lifting!!! Well, I have to take garbage out to the alley, but I put a smaller, lighter amount in each bag.

I have no idea if I am losing weight or not. The last time I weighed, I had gained, but I think that's due to my feet & legs being swelled up to almost double their normal size. I'm so swollen that I can't bend my toes or ankles much. I see the Dr about that tomorrow, but I noticed tonight that the swelling is down some; if my body does what it usually does, the swelling will be completely gone until Monday, after seeing the Dr. *sigh*

Hey VP, you sound like you are doing awesome -- no pain no loss lol  is the motto i need to live by lol  My boss and i were cracking up the other day because she asked me which she should go to spinning or cardio body sculpt.  I told her definitely body sculpt as nothing beats gaining muscle as it will work harder for you.  grins sweetly, she came in cursing me the next day as to how sore she was lol.  So everytime i walked into her office i was like okay get up and stretch, boy was she glowering at me every time i did.   But she was feeling better by the end of the day lol.

Blacksword, i love when people bring great motivation telling what they can do, so your posts are much appreciated.  To me, its never about what you can't do because what you CAN and DO do is progress.  So thanks for participating.

Hey Keri, That is awesome you get to utilize a pool.  But be careful not to over do it because you think you need to do everything because you have this access.  You know i was trying to see what else you may be able to do and i don't know if it would work but:

Hotels/Motels in your area, you may be able to talk to a Manager there and see if there would be some kind of deal you could make with them (i.e., payment) if they allow you to use the pool for an hour a day.

Or maybe apartment complexes in your area that have pools may let you make a deal with them.

Also, when you find a doctor talk to him about swiming seemed to help and -- he may be affiliated with a hospital that 1) either has a PT pool/lap pool or they have machines now that simulate in a very short space type whirlpools wherein you get the same benefit as if you were actually in a pool and he may be able to pull some strings to get you in at a low cost.

It's really admireable that you are looking for solutions -- i know it can't be easy.

Now my concern is your back probs so always run any suggestions past your doctor OR walk into a PT clinic and ask them for advise, but have you ever tried the eliptical which takes pretty much away any impact etc or rowing machine -- yeah i know rowing but it's low impact also.  If an eliptical works -- you can sometimes find them pretty cheaply on craigslist.

Lillybopeep, i see now and again in some threads you run and whenever i see it i secretly applaud lol so here is a GREAT JOB girly!  do you find it to be more helpful than walking?

I really enjoy seeing how much everyone is doing and all of the postive energy!!  Thank you,   I have started learning to run again, and it's very hard pyschologically because i HATE running mentally but i think it would be good for me.  So i am also doing some lifting but it's nothing significant yet.  I am hoping i can lower my body fat significantly by years end which means my body will be shaping up better.

Hope everyone has a great weekend, i am going to be working the upper body and stretching as i am painting my bedroom.

angel

I pushed back my doc appt lol so i have 2 weeks to accomplish our goals of 3 months --- ACK.  Well okay not so much as i am not that far away from reaching the goals we set.    So for the next two weeks my diet will consist of the following:

1.  Breakfast -- 3 eggs, tomatoes, spinach, and some feta or parm cheese omlet, i may also throw some bacon or shredded chicken in there a couple days or 3 eggs overeasy with asparagus and tomatos or heck spluge on my chicken muffins i make.

2.  Lunch -- salad with either chicken or Hamburger, with some avacado with a mixture of mayo and mustard type combination for dressing.

3.  Dinner will be a protein and a couple cups of veggies.

If i get an itch for a snack, i will have some chicken and tomatoes on hand or almonds or a slice of cheese.

One thing i will definitely be doing is start drinking damn water -- i am setting the minimum of 100 oz a day which doesn't include water i drink when working out.

So wish me luck, i think my doc will need to alter my meds because i have been craving sugar and sweetness like crazy these last three months and a friend of mine who is a diabetic stated it could be my meds need adjusting.  BLAH.  NO SWEETS lol outside of pumpkin with some splenda and cinnamon and cream cheese.  What's funny is sweets up until the last 3 months ago lol never were my thing -- i like junk food lol.

Soo that is my plan.  Then i will walk innocently into the docs office in 2 weeks and say seeeeeeee lol.

angel

I usually throw in a lot of water and coke zero cherry. It serves as something to keep the stomach full. And it's zero calories.
