I think the title of this thread is a little disingenuous.... republicans do not want you to plan ahead for rape, they want you to buy rape abortion insurance. You could always make the decision to have the baby.

I never got this "abortion is more necessary for rape victims" thing. Either you want to have the baby or you don't, the reason a woman doesn't want one is between her and her doctor. In other words, rape victim or not, women should have access to all legally available services... especially services that could be beneficial for her overall health and welfare

Next we will have strong arm robbery insurance.

WTF?  We cant even get decent health insurance. Why the fuck dont we get some smash your nuts with cinder block insurance for these fucksticks.

Maybe I am misunderstanding this whole conversation, but it sounds an awful lot to me like encouraging a woman who was raped to have her rapist's baby.

Seriously, RML, you've highlighted and underlined everything except the central definitive statement:

Either you want to have the baby or you don't, the reason a woman doesn't want one is between her and her doctor.

How can you get from there to "encouraging a woman who was raped to have her rapist's baby"?

K.

I wouldnt call it encouraging her to have it. More like forcing her to have it if she doesnt have the special insurance and cant afford an abortion out of pocket.

We are going back to the haves and the havenots.

If you are stabbed, should you have to have stabbing insurance?

There is every expectation that a woman who has been raped may get pregnant. What is being proposed is that, unless she has insurance against being raped (damn, I am really starting to hate insurance companies more and more) OR she can afford an abortion out of pocket, she is shit out of luck.

Tell ya what, Master Ron. If that insurance allows me as a rape victim to smash his nuts myself, I would damn sure buy it.

This is the part that confuses me.

Especially what I highlighted.

Let me be concise. I do not think that abortion should only be a right because a woman is raped. I never bought that, I never will. For those who bring up "Well do you support abortion if a woman is raped?" always seemed a little odd to me. Number one, it is saying that all pregnancies are murder unless it happens in the insistence of rape... That is illogical to me. If it is legal to have an abortion then it is legal to have an abortion, stop this equivocating because of rape, as if rape victims get some special access to this service other women don't. It shouldn't even be a part of the discussion in my eyes. Consent, or the lack thereof, have nothing to do with abortion.

I support the right to choose whether a woman forgot to use birth control, or she was raped. Period. I actually resent rape even coming into the debate about it. It only shows the patriarchal society that we live in where women are deprived of choices based upon their perceived sexual status as Madonna or whore

You seem to be reading things into my comments that aren't there an awful lot these days... very odd and peculiar...

I think I want to have domestic violence insurance... you know I will only be seen by a doctor if I can prove some guy threw me down the stairs and broke my leg[8|]

Why does a Canadian even give a fuck about what is going on in American politics? It is not like it is going to affect him.

tazzygirl -> RE: Republican Asks Women To Plan Ahead For Rape (5/25/2011 2:11:54 PM)

Its crazy. They are pandering to the small segment of their party, and I truly dont think they give a damn about how they hurt.

Face it, if one of their precious darlings got raped, they wouldnt have to worry about the money or the insurance.

Its another slam against women, especially poor women. And another attempt to pull down PP.

Take into consideration a woman who uses her policy. Its now open knowledge to any insurance company. So not only is she a victim to a crime, she will be victimized once again by those who obtain that information.

But, thats ok, because the Republicans told me so. [8|]

I can think of many reasons Canadians would care about certain things that happen in this country... our access to abortion is probably not one of them, unless he plans on getting a bunch of Yanks knocked up without money to pay for the deed.

Planned Parenthood has provided care for many many women, who while they were young may have lacked health insurance, have gone on and gotten it. If the Republican Party thinks they can demonize Planned Parenthood to all women, they need to look at how many women have been served by this necessary service, everything from pap smears to breast exams.

It is an attack on our reproductive health as American women. I do not need their services anymore, but I used them when I was younger for yearly physicals, etc.... millions of women have used them, and if we haven't, we know other women who have. In college aged women they are extremely popular. College aged women use Planned Parenthood for birth control and physicals more than they use the health center at my university.

tazzygirl -> RE: Republican Asks Women To Plan Ahead For Rape (5/25/2011 3:20:40 PM)

Look at how many congresswomen have admitted to utilizing their services. Im not worried about PP losing their ability to help. To think of it, neither am I worried about the GOP losing their ability to convince women they can effectively govern. They are proving time and time again they simply dont care.

Look, for one thing, Brain misstated the facts by saying "Republicans want women to plan ahead" since it is clear in the article that at least ONE republican had a problem with the other republican in question.

Secondly, I have friends in Canada, but I sure do not speak about things that I have no knowledge about OR take things out of context. I for one do not understand why there are both the english and french languages used in Quebec, although I can say it was confusing as hell the few times business took be there, but I sure as hell dont make statements about it since there evidently is some reason.

I think it is weird for a country that is no longer a colony of Great Britain to use "Royal" as in the "Royal Canadian Airforce" but whatever.

But when people who are not residents of this country try to portray something as fact when clearly it isn't is kind of on the stupid side, as in this case.

I will agree that the majority of Republicans are anti-abortion for any reason, but there are some, a very vocal minority who see exceptions to the stance.

Lucylastic -> RE: Republican Asks Women To Plan Ahead For Rape (5/25/2011 4:27:19 PM)

when your own people are more ignorant that outsiders, you have NO room to deny anyone being stupid,
and please take that up with HIM not "canadians" or non americans
