The ONLY think that eats me about the place is the stubby trees by comparison to new england. But I could deal... I love to fish and while I'd miss the mighty tuna and the striped bass. Salmon have their own mystique.

I've looked at a few spots that had some really nice trees on it but the majority is as you say..If I have to hand build a cabin, it'll suck a little but they'll work.

The fishing, hunting, gathering and growing to put food on the table, I look forward to, especially the FISHING. A better way of life in general, I say.

I have never fished before. Its on my to do list but way low down. Eventually I want a huge chunk of land and if it doesnt have a big pond, then I will build one and put fishies in it. I dont know if that would truely be considered fishing, fishing in a barrel perhaps. lol

To complete the hijack...

Fishing is one of my favorite ways to relax. Sitting on a bank watching a float is almost meditative. Fishing more actively is still a wonderfully relaxing activity.

As a young person I spent many days fishing in small ponds stocked with fish (usually cattle ponds on dairy farms). It is not any easier to catch a fish from a pond intentionally stocked than it is to catch "wild" fish.

Yeah I suppose it is like fishing in a barrel, in a way.
That's a good idea though, nothing wrong with making another habitat for the creatures.

The fishing itself is really fun for me but the cherry on top is putting food on the table in a more satisfying way..For me that is.

lol Perhaps,... but at least when they are stuck in a pond with no place to go, you know they are there!

I grew up on a farm and became a strict vegitarian when I was a little kid, I just couldnt eat my pets! Not sure why fish are different but they are, I would have them so that I could eat them.

I think tho, that I will build a mini guillotine for them, I wouldnt want them to suffer with me hacking away trying to chop their heads off and missing repeatedly cuz my eyes were closed.

Maybe you should go with lethal injection then. I'm not sure it's a good idea to close one's eyes while trying to hold a fish under a guillotine.

It reminds me of this. Just NOT a good idea!

Anyway, the alternative energy field is opening up on all fronts, solar is but one. There are huge amounts of potential just around the corner, say, a few years from now. I think solar will eventually be the most predominately used energy source for this country and even the world. Big hopes, I know. With the new techs being developed, those being implemented now and those still in their first stages of planning, I think it's more than hope.

Boys and their toys, huh?

I would probably have something (clamps?) to hold the little slippery suckers down & in place too. Either that or a strong unsqueemish boyfriend that can do the deed for me.

For catfish I drive a nail through their skull, kills them and holds them in place. This is important because it takes a fair amount of effrt to skin one.

For other fish generally I gut them and that kills them. Then I slice off the head if I want fillets but often I simply gut and scale the fish and cook it whole.
