I'm incensed but I try to let it go. There are too many arrogant, ignorant, bigoted, judgemental, cruel people in the world... Hell, throughout all of history... to dwell on it. You can't save everyone in the world and I have no desire to go through life in a state of impotent rage. Personally, I've found that the best salve for such feelings is to act locally for the public good. Do what you can do, in other words, like get involved with the local food pantry or clothes closet or any number of other things you can do to help your neighbors. One person collecting food does more to alleviate suffering than a thousand protesters dancing like idiots in the streets or a million people venting on message boards. But what to do when you are confronted with such obnoxiousness up close? There have been many good recomendations like the silent protest (everyone turns their back upon them and stays silent while the bigots rant and rave) or set up booths to collect for charities you know they will hate (like advancing the cause of gay marriage). Even those of us who are not on the scene can still get involved. If you've a few bucks to spare, make a donation to a gay rights cause in the name of the WBC and then send them a post card informing them (be sure to thank them for the inspiration)
